So last night I got stuck in a pretty vicious storm between Esk and Home. This stretch of road, is effectively in the middle of nowhere. No servos, no parks, no shoulder to pull up on even.

So when the **** came down (and by came down, I could see the waves of rain on the road when I had a car coming towards me) I had no choice but to press on. I even had water leaking in between my visor and helmet.

For around 20mins I had hard wind driven rain that was genuinley horizontal coming straight at the nose of the bike.

I did think quickly about the FAI tubes copping some water.

Stopped at the Fernvale Servo, all running fine.

Waited for the rain to settle down and decided to get going again. Started it, went to leave and it started popping and farted and down on power.

    Ya Bastard.

Now, I have ridden in constant heavy rain on the bike prior to this, for 2 or 3 days straight and had no issues.

But this is the second time that this has happened. The other being the rained out drag meet that had very similar rain. But that time I thought the tank filler was to blame due to it not quite sealing. But this time I had my tank bag on and checked when I got home what it was like under the bag. Dry as a bone. Unlike me (rolled the dice on wet weather gear)

That only leaves one other water ingress. The induction tubes. Since I was riding in such heavy rain that was so horizontal that it may have forced its was up the tubes with 20 mins of constant battering?

Is it a possible design flaw? Or just one off events from extreme circumstances? Or both?

So I'm about to go drain the float bowels and See what's what, and if need be, the tank and fuel lines to make sure....

    Happy Easter everyone!

P.S. Does anyone know what it's like to ride over the Wivenhoe dam wall when it's so pitch black (because of the cloud cover) the only way you THINK your there is the change between 100k down to an 80, then a bolt of lightning lights it up for a split second, before pitch black again?

    Goddamn Freaky!

Airbox? What if it's coming in the front through the vent into the box and getting sucked into the carbies? That sounds most logical to me. Maybe the drain hose at the base is blocked and it ain't getting out...?

Well, the FAI tubes feed into that vent, so, by its very nature, thats what I meant.

    Drain hose? What Drain hose?

The hose not being there is not a big problem in my opinion but check that outlet is not blocked on the box

Just lift the tank and pull the top off the airbox , filter out and look inside

You have a point. If that hose isn't there, it would be very easy for water to get in there.

Yea I see wat u mean ..... I was just meaning that as a drain hole anything would drain out with or without the hose ..... but maybe water could get in that hole or sucked in for that matter , without the hose ...... because I think the little canister thats mid hose is a one way filter/valve ..... I bought one for mine when I was renovating it.

Well there is no hose on it. I'm going to have to buy one from Yamaha and put it on.

I think your right re the footvalve

The hole is filled with grease and dirt. It will be definitely needed.

I definitely need a new air filter and a few new float bowl screws....

Pull off your airbox and clean it right out ..... if u have the stock air filter with the cloth type element u can clean that in hot soapy water also .... put it in the sun to dry completely and hit with a bit of compressed also.... thats wat I did

Just buy any hose that fits the box and valve pipes ..... the valve is only cheap

It just needs to run to under the bike like the other breathers

Well, Drained the float bowls, and the fuel, fresh stuff in, running like a champ.

Carbs need a tune. Shes hard to start cold now. It used to start relatively fine until the first load of water down its throat.
