Ultrasonic Cleaning

    Separate dis-similar metals as there can be galvanic reactions between them which will discolour some items - this of course depends on the pH of your cleaning solution.
    For example I left a spring (stainless) on a pilot air jet, the brass darkened. No pitting or erosion occurred though.
    Steel in together with aluminium will tend to result slight darkening of the aluminium - of course depending on it's particular alloy.

    Better to group metallic parts by material to be safe

    Thats interesting .....glad u posted that ..... Ive had a few things come out with dark 'patches' on them .... and that explains why :thumb_ups:

    Brass comes up nicely with a little cleaning vinegar or it takes a little more time with cream of tartar.

    The slight discolouration is in fact nothing to be concerned about

    There is a product called threebond engine conditioner, it is used for de-coking Subaru boxer engines. Am told many motorcycle mechanics are using said product for doing the same job on powervalves . Would jump onto site and read all about it.

    Those are $300+ new but I was lucky to grab it for half that on ebay (secondhand but hardly used)

    The thing for one that size at least, is it fits a carby or 2

    two cheap easy and effective options - oven cleaner aerosol spray, warm the power valve under hot water, spray it then scrub with a dishwashing type brush, rinse under hot water then repeat. It will take some, however it will work well.

    Otherwise, diesel or kerosene 40%-60%, plus shellite (AKA Naptha or Coleman camping stove fuel) 25%-35% plus isopropyl alcohol 10%-20% - This is the approximate formula for seafoam, which isn't available here.
    This could also be used in an ultrasonic, though the shellite will evaporate quickest, so leave it running without heat at room temperature

    Cleaner is only a 550 ml one - I figure I can try cleaning the floats, needle and jets from the carb with a stuck choke flap as a test run - might try the bowl as well on its own.

    Ok so I picked up the 2 litre one for $150. Any of you guys tried 3bond diluted solution for cleaning? I have seen people use all different types of solutions but nothing about 3bond.
