I bought this bike in March 2012. It had sat around for a while and needs some love. I haven't done much yet. Time and money! Anyway, I have managed to get a bit done over 2 years in terms of buying stuff I would need and sharing the $ pain out a bit. I have recently started stripping it down now and getting a bit more serious with some important stuff.. Wheels stripped of their yellow paint and painted original gold and wrapped in Dunlop TT GP900 tyres (post classic track day tyre?) Forks rebuilt at Hoey Racing in Adelaide. Bought an NOS fuel tank as the one with the bike was well and truely stuffed inside and out (rare colour too so hard to find you would think?? Yeah me too - but I'll be stuffed - I got it in Adelaide down the road at Yamaha Retro Spares!) Only cost me an arm and a leg too.... bought a seat cowl here www.classicracereplicas.com and had it painted when it arrived got some really nice rear plastic (both sides) from a guy in Canada some new blue mirrors and indicators surrounds off evilbay and some switch gear. Never owned an TZR in the day (not many people did based on how few are around in Australia) but I had an RZ250R and RZ500 so must like the sound of the YVPS - considering my slight Suzuki bias and I love this colour combo from the 250GP World Championship! (even though it is a cigarette company inspired) Nick
Nice one. I've got a red and white a done. Mines lovely, I always wanted one as a kid, having had 2 strokes as a kid. I've got new pistons , barrels and K2 pipes and a new stator. Its in for new fork seals at the moment. It really is a beautiful little bike and best of all its smells better than it looks.
Would like a set of pipes. I am doing up my old set - been burnt out, and had the scrapes and dents removed and been painted - but still not ideal. Here is my tank - which I reckon is lovely!
Nice job. I sourced my K2s from Webike Japan, took 3 days to arrive! Also got a jet kit. You can really do alot to these to up the HP to around the mid 50s.Very simple motor configuration aswell. Carbs are basic and under size bit easy to port and a really easy to ride and fun bike.
Very nice. Any chance you got those rear plastics from a guy Ontario Canada? May have been a friend of mine. @Brizfox... I'd be interested in hearing more about your engine mods. Is the jet kit for the standard carbs? I've a set of 34mm mikuni carbs with pod filters that I've been thinking about trying.
Me too re engine mods! I have found this link http://www.classicyams.com/Technology/Technology/yamaha-tzr250-tuning-2ma-1kt.html (apologies if it is already elsewhere) and see there is a brand new crank listed on ebay for sale too (and several second hand ones).
My TZR is heavily modified. Many pictures of the modifications in this thread on the TZR Forum: http://pure2strokespirit.net/forums/index.php?topic=175.0
