Some times you just wonder what's going on, shipping and transit times for parts just seem to be out of this world. Here is a case in point! Ordered some parts (needles) for my Bandit from a crowd in Canada. So far so good, checked on shipping cost to Australia and was confronted with a list a mile long. One carrier guaranteed delivery within 72 hours, that will do just fine, went to check out and was hit with a bill that would nearly allow me to fly over and collect the parts myself. Doubled back and found an air service for $15.00, that's the one for me. Back to check out, paid and was informed receipt would be sent shortly, all good and happy again. Sure enough, a few minutes later my receipt is on screen with a notation: transit times 3 to 4 weeks Was astounded, went back to the site and discovered in very fine print: delays can occur due to customs? I have made a mental note of dispatch date and will await said delivery, is anyone else facing similar dilemmas.
It's always a gamble as to how fast you get something from overseas, I've had stuff come from the UK in less then a week and some stuff took a month, same for the states.
Its something I wish I had noted on everything I have purchased from overseas and locally..... which is alot ( I recently had so many envelopes and wrapping and bubble wrap piled up behind me I couldnt move my computer chair backwards ) I think times would vary considerably and would agree with my friend above ..... its luck. You do have to be careful with what u are going to pay though .... definately worth looking around ...... as I posted elswhere with the JIS screwdrivers .... same set from the USA on ebay.... 1 seller was approx $17 the other was approx $45 to ship..... some charge handling but thats alot of handling! These days I just order and wait.......
When buying parts for my Yamaha YB100 rebuild I found that parts bought directly from Thailand/Singapore took 3 to 4 weeks with sometimes high shipping costs, but the same bits bought from UK (that had to go from Thailand to UK first) arrived here in 2 weeks and cheaper shipping costs.
My secret is I just keep ordering stuff , so theres always something due, so theres always the anticipation of a knock on the door from the courier. Those blingy blue bar ends on the Fizzer took 7 months to arrive from the USA ...... I originally just added them to a genuine Yamaha parts order cuz they were on "special" ..... company policy was that nothing in an order was shipped until all parts were in stock, so I was waiting for the important stuff but the bar ends went "out of stock" ...... not impressed! Lets say I changed their shipping policy by a few choicely worded emails and received the gen parts in a reasonable time.....my patience was sorely tested in that deal The gen parts came in two lots then the bar ends so they had to pay for 2 xtra freight costs
Alot of it is just little things here and there ..... like these that came in the last week or so ..... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/260893110835?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and this ,which is just awesome for reading jet and needle numbers for us blind old bastards .... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271191802313?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
It's official, parts from Canada take longer than those from Thailand, it will be nice to ride again one day, probably the rego will have run out by the time the parts get here....
At last, a parcel from Canada was delivered yesterday, 27 days waiting for needles and seats. Took the carbs out and began cleaning, all jets, emulsion tubes had an overnight soak in threebond and looked great this morning. So today, finally got down to the task of getting my carbs fitted with all new seals and parts. Carbs are reassembled and tomorrow am will install and hope all pans out.
