OK... Very short notice, but yesterday I decided to do a track day... and it's this saturday.

No workshops are available to perform a major (or even minor) service until middle of next week.

sooo.... looks like I'll have to do the basics myself.

I replaced the sparkies and changed the oil and oil filter with Ciaran about a month ago.

I plan to change the oil again before saturday, but I don't know what else I should do / check before the Big Day.

Can anyone give me some pointers of things to check / change?

    Cheers

Tire pressure and suspension settings. About all you're gonna have time to do now.

    lol, nuff said.

I'm going to duck down to the local yard and see if they have an air filter (mine's due for replacement). Might also take a look at the brake pads and consider replacing those (if I can get replacements in time).

I went down to Joes on the weekend to get some brake pads but they only had one set for the front and one for the back. They said it would be Wednesday before they could get more in. I’m not sure but don’t you have to go easy for a couple of hundred k's on new pads for them to seat properly?

You will be lucky if anyone in town has a new air filter. When you change your oil have a look at the stuff at the bottom of the tray, when I poured the old stuff into a bottle it had a lot of glittery metal bits in it. They may have just been left over from when you got the bike but best to check it out anyway.

    !!!!
    urgh!

That doesn't sound healthy at all.

I had a major service done to it right after I bought it, so it has to be fairly recent.

When you say lots.... how much is lots? Jeebus, now you've got me scared.

Alright, I'll take your word on the brake pads. I have it booked in for a major service next week anyway.

Btw, don't forget that our oil was mixed up together. I can always pray that it came from yours :p

hahah yeah it was mixed but I did an oil change on my bike on the weekend just to be sure but couldn’t see anything untoward. Not lots but enough to be out of the ordinary. I would have told you earlier but I have been a bit busy / lazy and hadn’t had time to cart all the old oil to the dump till the weekend. Just let the oil settle after you drain it and check, I don’t want to make you paranoid or anything. Maybe that oil filter hadn’t been changed at the last service, after all it was a bastard to get off?

Most of the metal in the oil your seeing would be from the clutch basket and gearbox.
