Hey all. Just put a down payment on a bike - none other than an FZR, of course, and I'm itchin to get it soon (few weeks).

I've looked at it and its not bad, got a few scratches here and there (not many, but dont they all have scratches these days?) And the motor has only done 27,000 or so k's, and sounds clean.

What I'm really interested in knowing about, is preperation. I'm waiting 3 weeks, so I should at least get ready. I live with relatives near uni, in a bungalow out the back, so I havent checked the shed.. till today. Ever seen a desert wasteland? Try my shed. There's nothing there for any kind of automotive repair. The only thing I could find related to a tool was a bore.
    A HAND-POWERED BORE.
So needless to say, I need tools. lotsa tools. May I ask what do you guys use for tools? I need to go shopping, and I'd very much like to make a list. I'd also like to know what other nifty non-tool things are out there that I should go and buy - obvioulsy all related to the bike. It'd be also very appreciated if you could list the higher priority gadgets over the less important ones.

    Thanks!

welcome to the site, mate. what did you pay for the bike. Know what year it is?
Your more organised than i was, and chances are, your gonna need those tools sooner rather than later!
For basic work on the bike (no engine dismantling) you'll have to start with a wrench and socket set, screwdriver set (those ones with the changeable heads are handy), set of spanners, and most of all, allen keys. Its a good idea to get a set of allen key style sockets for the wrench, because everthing from the fairings to engine covers to brake discs seem to be secured with allen key bolts, and you'll need a bit of force to get some of em off.
Thats just a start though. Pliers, vice-grips, hammer, shifters..........

cool, thanks man! that helps. I've dug around and found a few tools here and there. Nothing much and I certainly can't keep them in the shed for myself because they all have a use for something else.. Oh well. The only tools I have are ones I got for putting my computer together.. thats like 2 tools!

Thanks for the heads up on the allen keys. I didn't think that they would be a high priority thing..

Oh, and to answer your q. The bike was inported '97 - nothing to do with model I know but i think its the younger 3ln.. I paid $3300 for it - seems about worth it,and I know theres dearer out there (like sumoto world of 250x normal prices!)

"IF" you can afford it...... front and rear stands. Motorcycle Life is MUCH better with them. Sockets, allen wrenches, dead blow hammer, and spanners.

    a set of sockets... from 8mm to 25mm 1/2" or 1/4" drive...
    a set of screwdrivers...

Depending on how advenced stuff you want to do... you could end up paying $$$$$ for tools and opening up a garage.. that is wat I did.. so if you want cheep repairs or servicing give me a yell... lol I have ALL THE TOOLS and I'm still finding I need MORE!!!
