Today's tip - head gasket'ing

    Hey guys, see pics below, this is the correct/best stuff to use when fitting your new head gasket or even a used but good one.
    Just remember that all joining surfaces must be PERFECTLY clean and free from old silicone type goo that you really should not use anyway  as you can never get a perfectly even sealing surface area with it.

    In the case of this CBR250 gasket I was able to reuse it by laying it on a flat surface and using a VERY sharp 1 inch chisel  and gently scraped the old goo from it and then followed that with fine wire wool, I then cleaned it with metho and sprayed the copper spray over it. You get a perfectly even finish with none of the risk that silicone goos present like bits of it floating around inside looking for a oil way to nest it.

    it can also be used on paper gaskets like clutch cover caskets etc, it costs about $30.00 a can but worth it.

    I haven't used this before but I use coppercote on nuts and bolts in some very harsh environments and they always come apart easy when needed so I would think that this would not only help the gasket to seal but also come apart easy when needed.

    I will keep an eye out for a can.

    exactly right, it stays tacky all the time so it will not bake to surfaces. I did a quick search on ebay last night for it and found the VHT equivalent at $16.00 a can but add $10 post. I just prefer to pay the extra $4.00 and get it over the counter, I got my can from Supercheap.
