Good to have second and third opinions on the value of things. :)

About what you said Grey. :thumb_ups:
It is not until you go to put it together that you find all the little bits that are missing, and they soon add up. The old CB was a good reliable (if unexciting to ride) bike and we have a couple here in our group. This one would need a complete strip down and the top end of the motor opened up to clean as there are no rags or stoppers in the ports to stop dust or insects getting in, and the same for the carbs. The tank missing is a big negative as they could be hard to get a decent one, no side covers or badges and some electrical bits are missing. Expect to spend $2000+ to get this back to pristine condition. It would then be worth maybe $2,500.
This would suit someone who is prepared to spend 12 months cleaning, chasing bits, painting and putting back together. They would then have a classic bike, to be proud of what they had done, have a reliable bike to ride that was eligible for historic rego (re cheap).
    Just my opinion.

A mate of mine was unemployed for a few months recently and did the following project. I followed his progress to try and learn whatever I could. He did manage to get quite a few parts that look original but weren't. Hardest thing to find was the side covers. The bike looks great. I expect Murdo will be able to point out the non-standard bits, but most people don't have a clue. he spent about $2,000 on the whole project.

    That's a pretty impressive transformation!

Learning about some of that myself. The CB250RS has been coming along nicely - I have already found places I could have saved money along the way though.

Trying to keep the ZZ-R250 on a fairly tight budget in case I sell it.

Doesn't help that we don't have a decent bike wrecker in or around Canberra to my knowledge either. :(
I need more locals with connections!:lolsign:

Agree. Restorations can be very painful if you don't have the connections. Looking forward to seeing how your CB250RS comes out. I've always liked them.

Frankster, your mate should be very proud of himself. That is a top looking CB.
Wouldn't look too hard at the bits, it is a nice bike and he is riding it, and that's all that matters. :drinks:

Yep, he's pretty good at it. This one was a labour of love. He had a CB360 when he was a lad in Scotland. He had CB250 side panels on it so the cops wouldn't be too suspicious (something to do with age/capacity apparently).

One more pic just because it looks the goods...
