Hey everyone!

As most of you would know my old motor is fubar and I'm about to get a new one put in. The only issue I have is how much the mechanics are going to charge per hour ($66!!!!)

The mechanics aren't going to be able to work on it for a while, so I figured I would get my bike and take out the old motor over my xmas holidays and save some $$$

Do you guys think I could get it done? I've never done anything like this before so I figured I would ask for some tips first. My bro offered to help, he has dropped the motor out of his CR-250, but as he said there's probably a fair bit of difference between a road and dirt bike.

Anyway, any tips / suggestions would really be appreciated. (Workshop manual would be awesome about now!)

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!

PS: EMBO, got any spare time for a fellow Novocastrian FZR brother over the next few weeks ? ;)

Best of luck dude, hope you get everything in order.. I think the price the mechanic charges is an average reasonable price.. for myself I have a mate who does it in his backyard and charges real cheap like $30-40 an hour.. he really looks after me since my cousin knows him well. So maybe if you can find someone like that who is qualified to do it would be good. I know **** about takin the engine out hehe.. so hopefully one of the geeky riders will be able to give u some tips..

good luck dude and hope u get back on the bike soon!!!!

I have a fzr 400 manual in soft copy. The bikes (from what I ahve been told, as well as what I have looked at) are essentially identical except of course for the 250 to be a bit smaller.

I could pass this on to you, but the file size is rather large (~30 mb's). It could help out with taking an engine out.

Yeah great idea dean, I would be keen to get it - only problem would be bandwidth if everyone is downloading it then you could crank up some usage hehe

No worries. If you can tell me how you end up reducing it I would appreciate it. I tried, but couldn't figure out how to reduce a pdf file size - so if you have any luck it may be good info for me to know in the future.

    Hey dudes

I went and had a chat to the mechanics about taking the motor out myself. They said I would be saving them about an hour of work. I figured it was more of a hassle than it was worth so I'm not going to do it. I'd still love to get my hands on that FZR-400 manual though!

I'm happy to leave it in my shared folder for people to grab off Kazaa or off the Donkey network. I've got broadband here at home so it should be passed around fairly quick.

Boz, any chance you could share or set an FTP site up for the manual ?

Hope u guys had a good Christmas.

    Droping engine

Droping the engine is very simple its a case of unbolting undoing uncliping all the wiring looms and cables and hoses that contect up to the engine. But I would leave it to the pros if u dont know that much about it.
