I am realy struggling to get the performance out of my FZR250. I can hardly get to 110 km/h or till 5th gear. Can't even go into 6 th gear otherwise I loose speed. Is balancing the carbs as explained on this site the same as when you synchronise the carbs? What else can I do to get at least to the 140km/h limit? What is the general top speed of the FZR 250? Somewhere in the forums there was a description of how to tune the carbs. I would assume that when you tune them you will also synchronise them, else the tuning is irrelevant. Normal setup is 3 turns out - someone (d_slayer I think) found that 2.25 turns works better for him. If they are not synched properly then one carb will open more than another meaning that the tuning is incorrect for some, correct for others. Sounds like you have some serious issues if you can barely get to 110kph, and 6th gear slowing you down though. I had mine around the 160 mark at about 15 000 revs - the bike would have likely continued to 175-180 mark before red line. A proper shop tune may be in order...
I think this has been discussed before, but here i go anyway. My 3LN FZR runs smooth and seems to be going fine, but it seems pretty inefficient. I only get about 130kms out of a full tank (before reserve, that is). Others say they used to get 200ks out of his 2KR. Could my tuning be out? It doesn't seeem to be, it runs well. Any other thoughts on fuel economy? Is about 7L/100kms normal?
I used to get 160 / tank city, 200 / tank open riding (2kr) - both after reserve. So getting 130/tank is about right. The 2kr has a 10+2 litre tank vs. the 3ln's which have a 12+2 - so the 2kr is likely to get slightly less than 3ln's. I can only think that the people who say they can get 200 / tank on a 2kr are talking open road riding. If you are saying that you are getting only 130 k's pre reserve on open road then you may need some adjustment or consider your riding style. the most common mistake is to ride the fzr at 10-12 000 revs because that is where the main power band is, but to get fuel efficiency you should ride at 6-8000 revs. 14 k/litre (what you are getting) is pretty normal for a sports 250 from what I understand.
