Hi all. Just joined from the UK. Probably like many I’m trying to relive my youth by buying my first ever bike as a fixer upper. The search for parts and advice has started. I now have a Suzuki GSX250E from 1981. Getting a parts catalogue would be a great start. Any thoughts? Regards Mark

Sorry for the delay in getting pics up - I didn't have any until the weekend past. It's in a bit of a state as you can see, but it's complete and I think all doable. (The chain guard is pretty horrible!) I took an inventory of all I need at this stage over the weekend, so in the next couple of months I suspect I'll be looking some help and guidance on the way forward. So far, I've bought a couple of reasonable replacement forks and will probably send them away for refurb. Im in the UK so any suggestions on who would do a good job would be welcome. I have also bought a brand new tank in great order. Im going to paint the bike red (as was mine when I was a student). The only "problem" is that the new tank was from a 400 I think, as it has screw holes for tank badges. I do want to stay original, but am happy to stick with this tank. I want to do a nut and bolt restoration, so will be stripping the bike down and getting the frame powder coated. I also want to do a full engine rebuild, but, as Ive never down one, Im happy with stripping it down, but not so happy about building it up again. I want to do as much as I can myself, but would like to have the back up of someone would build it up for me up my sleeve. I want to get involved of vapour cleaning as much as I can too. Im not sure what state the engine is in internally yet, so have bought 0.5mm oversize pistons (just to have them), just in case. I had a look down the dipstick hole and it doesn't look too bad. The oil in the engine looks quite clean. Re the plastic parts, what I have is a bit of mixed bag. If they are well rubbed down, can they be pained to a good standard? As you can see, its badly in need of a new seat too. The parts catalogue I was able to download has been invaluable. All replies, benefit of others' experience and suggestions gratefully received!
Good project. Needs some elbow grease but should come up a pearler. Plastics can be painted with the correct primer.
I am in another Forum for SOHC Honda's in the UK and it seems most people there are using a company called Phillpots for their fork leg chroming... I did see another reference to Dynasurf as well. Maybe check them both out and see how you go.
