Last night I was riding home and my bike started to stutter, basically had to idle at 8K RPM at the lights so it wouldn't die in the ass, I thought it was the EXUP ******* up but it turn out I was out of petrol (A full 16L tank in 120KM, cool ey). Needless to say it was 11PM and I pushed it close to 2KM home, boy was I tired.

I filled up a full tank today and the bike is running, however you can hear that the exhaust note isn't smooth like it's supposed to be, instead there is a noticeable and constant sorta stuttering/popping sound, the sound is faint but it's present. I doubt it's the EXUP because when you hit RUN I can hear it moving smoothly.

What could it be? The stuttering is bad, particularly at low RPM and there is a lack of response at anything under 12K RPM (Over 12K seems fine) and all the symptoms seem to point to EXUP? T he valve seems to be moving clearly, wouldn't I be able to hear some kind of jam in the EXUP cleaning cycle if the EXUP was the culprit?

So far I was thinking it might be a ****** up spark plug lead causing the spark plug to not function or the carbies, however If I hold the throttle the needle doesn't bounce instead it stays at the desired RPM pretty much spot on.

What the hell could it be, it's really starting to give me the shits!

I had an issue with mine years ago where it had a dead spot around 10000 RPM, right where you want to cruise. You really had to gun it to get through that range, but was fine upwards. It turned out that the EXUP valve was slightly out of adjustment, it still moved back and forth alright, but doesn't open at the right time and basically choked the motor a bit.

The EXUP is not hard to check or adjust. Just make sure the slot between the prong thing is over the top of the hole, when you turn on the ignition after it goes through it's little sequence. There used to be a thread on here somewhere showing how to adjust it.

I suppose you rule the easy things out first.

My apologies if you've already checked it's adjustment

i had something like this recently and it turned out to be valve clearances, and the valves were not sealing properly. and i would suggest the carbs need some attention too. Have fun

Holly crap, well this just sorta popped up yesterday so fingers crossed it's nothing major

I might check the plug leads today and see if one of the plugs isn't working.

Was your bike idling fine? Mine is idling fine and everything but you can hear stuttering note from the exhaust.
