Im writting this post after going for a quick ride to my gfs house. As it was just around the corner I thought, theres no need putting all my gear on.

As I was going around a left hand corner at a roundabout..and accelerating out (keeping to the lefthand side on the road), I started to vear to the right. Suddenly a car started beeping its horn, as I do a head check I find a car in the same lane as me! aout 30cms from me. Nearly gave me a heart attack.
Obviously the car has come through the roundabout after me, and tried to pass me, but as the fizzer kicked in an accelerated..found himself in the same lane. I wish I could have done something, like smashed his window! At first I thought it might have been my fault and I didn't see him, but then that would suggest I went around the same time as the car, in which case I would have seen him.

What close calls have u guys had with cars, or other bikes? And what have u done about it?

They say you should always wear your gear even if your just going down the block. Close call I had was when i was on a main road and in the middle lane there was a truck and 2 cars behind it.. so i decided to go to the right lane and overtake them.. the traffic lights had just turn green so i was in first gear and i switch to the right lane.. but for some reason my spider senses said to stay in 1st gear, i was just under 10K RPM... when all of sudden the car right next to me on the left switches lane.. i wasnt even goin be in the car's blind spot for long as i was accelearting out but he just got me as i was passin through.. so a twist of the thorttle and i blasted out of there.. that was a close call.. but after a while u kinda get use to it and expect it.

cant really ive had a close call like that, but i think the closest i came to a stack was when just near my street a truck working on a house and ditched a bit of concrete (still as powder) onto the rd and as i went over it i downgeared and the arse started sliding about into oncoming traffic. My first expereine of bike drifting nearly made go home for some new jocks.Since then ive been pretty anal about having my jacket and draggin jeans on when i go for a spin. there's plenty of arseholes out there who lapse concentration when driving so i guess we just need to keep ourselves 2 steps ahead.

bloody idiot car drivers not paying attention.
i had my first close call on sunday,
riding along a 3 lane road in the left lane, nothing in middle, female P-plater in right lane with some 80 year old skeleton in the pass. seat. up ahead i notice a car parked in the left lane, so i merge into the middle lane.
As i am approaching the parked car the P-plater who was just in front of me (i was in line with her rear door) starts merging into the centre lane, MY LANE. I am thinking ****, i cant move to the left cause there is a bloody parked car there. I beep my horn, she looks at me but KEEPS ON MERGING INTO MY LANE.!!!!!!!
luckily i was only in 3rd or 4th gear, so i managed to accelarate ahead of the parked car and into the left lane before she squashed me!
needless to say she got the frowning of a life-time.

Damn greeny , i cant believe she still merged even after realising you were there.. can't your blue powers do something to teach her a lesson?
We have some stoopid ass riders out there, just glad they dont outweigh the good drivers.

Yeah they could, but it'd be a nightmare of paperwork. A foot in the door would have been far more effective in hindsight.

Rather than kicking, a friend of mine has a little trick he employs. when someone merges as described, he sits behind them until they come to a stop. Then lanesplits up next to them, pushes down hard enough on the mirror to break it off (most have 'crash release' systems so they can be put back on relatively easily), and places it on the bonnet. That way the person has 2 choices: follow the rider to try and get their number plate, or save their mirror. Most choose to save the mirror. And most times my friend can lanesplit his way away anyways.

I have never done this myself, but makes me smile when I think of him doing this.

Cant the drivers just wait for the rider to take off and get his number plate that way??

I asked him that and he said that people get too flustered and 'forget' or don't have a pen/paper handy. Who knows. I like the idea, but there are too many reasons I wouldn't do it (such as the possibility of having license recorded).

yeah, that sounds fun in theory, but all it takes is for some one with a good memory and you've got issues with the .

bloody cops, spoiling all our fun.

Haha boz that is a cool idea, but how hard would u have to whack the mirror?? Does he have a hammer handy? All the cars I have looked at recently seem to look quite secure. Or is it just that, the optical illusion, and they're easy to rip off?

I think if I ever got piss at someone ill follow them home, then yell out I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE... and just leave it at that.. Fear works so much better . but im yet to try that out still even after almost gettin run off the road by a crazy 4wd!
