Help Sprocket/Chain problems.

    Greetings from the UK, part of giving the GB250 Clubman a birthday treat is fitting a new chain and sprockets. I have the correct 520 chain with 102 links, and a new genuine Honda gearbox sprocket. As I try to wind the chain round the sprocket, those peculiar hard plastic type shoulders stop the chain from engaging to its full depth on the sprocket, meaning it fouls the engine casing. Is it me????? Have I missed the bleedin' obvious? The old one seemed to have the plastic part totally removed from one side, I don't see what purpose it serves anyway, have never come across it on my other bikes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it demonstrates how stupid I have been!! Stay safe. Mike.

    Take and post photo of chain on front sprocket.

    It should be rubber to cushion chain when it "lands" on sprocket. Most OEM sprockets are rubber cushioned.

    If you wrap chain all way around sprocket, it should fall into valleys between teeth and compress rubber cushion.

    Get chain on top or bottom run of rear-sprocket. Then put free end on sprocket and spin it so ends are at back of sprocket. This should pull chain enough to fully compress in front.

    Thanks Danno, I will have another look at it in the morning, hopefully with a fresh outlook and not too much of a hangover!

    Thanks Danno, you're a star! The rear wheel , with its nice new tyre and tube was inserted into swing arm, freshly painted brake plate installed, chain fitted just as you said, nice!. Even managed to fit the fiddly-arsed chain guard without too much blood spilt. Plenty of time was taken to ensure that the wheel alignment was spot on, and the rear brake adjusted. Success!! I dropped the bike off the centre stand to be confronted with clear evidence that I had not checked whether tyre/tube fitting was successful. Don't we just love this pastime of ours???

    heh, heh... always something!!!

    Gotta watch for those pinched tubes. At least it's not high-pressure like bicycles where they sneak out between tyre & rim and go KABOOM!!!! Had one wait for couple hours after pumping up and I thought someone set off bomb in garage! :eek:
