I've been through the search function and found info, but it was all old or not applicable to my bike ('88). My question is wemoto list a chain-sprocket kit (here) for an '87 FZR....would this still be the same for an '88? If not, by the sounds of the older threads I can go with a 520 chain and 14T/45T sprocket kit - any idea what length chain I would need?
To the best of my knowledge, all the FZR250s used 428 chains; I have never heard of a 520 kit for a 250. While the rear sprocket can take a 520 sprocket from a 400, the front sprocket may be your limiting factor. If you note the front sprockets for the 250 on the Wemoto site, they're all 428.
