They look great, I've been over ruled, we will use a gloss black on the engine to keep it original. Your probably right about the hones, I don't know what weve got becasuse they aren't marked, the packet isn't marked either, what ever it is it worked beautifully. The one we got was much sparklier than the other.
Knuckled down and finally got the cylinder head off Scarlet to check that suspicious head gasket after getting the cylinder head cover off last night. Judging by the reasonable condition of the gasket, there's something more serious going on - @risky might be right about the piston, rings or cylinder being the problem... I'll put details in the rebuild thread with pics later tonight - Nix has been complaining about a lack of oil on my daily rides lately, so I better go give her the attention she needs!
tech, remove the valves and decarbon, reinstal with new valve stem seals- then remove bore and piston- hone the bore and clean carbon out of ring grooves. instal new rings with end gaps in line with gudgeon pin, reassemble and straight mineral oil and run in at low revs under load,.
having seen murdo,s spray booth i can add it has the latest mod cons- heated and vented with a flow through system to aid drying.
Started on making the wiring loom for the 250 Enfield. Have about half done (the horn works ) but will have to buy more green wire before any more can be done. Robbo and Kevvy came over for a cuppa today, showed them the VT250.
I had forgotten about bunnings yesterday, but today I encountered an issue on the rear brake and swapped the whole system over with my spare one. Pain in the bum. Rear wheel has to come off, but getting the two springs for the brake lever and brake switch on (which you cannot get eyes on with the bike on a rear stand) makes getting the rear wheel back on by yourself look like child's play.
Following changing the whole brake caliper and lines over, the fluid needed to be replaced as it was a rather dull green and the lever was spongy. I went and bought a one man brake bleeder, it makes the job so so easy, why would you even try without one?
I have a one man brake bleeder ... its called 'me' , a glass jar and a piece of tube ... and a spanner hasnt failed me yet
Mate u have the Level 1 model ..... mine has no lid , which means the tube flicks about too much .... time to upgrade ... Ill have to eat extra Vegemite this week
I've gone upmarket and used an old brake fluid bottle with a 3/8" hole in the cap for the plastic tube.
