So I'm planning on doing a track day.... I really got the taste for it in Sydney at the Barry Sheene Festival watching Mboddy on the track, when I got back I was trying to get my finances in order to buy a race bike, then I had an accident and I kinda lost my nerve. The good news is that while my 600 has been in the shop (now 5 weeks and counting) I have been riding my Aprilia and I have rekindled not only my love of riding, but for riding 2 strokes.

So being a track day virgin, I'm keen to speak to others who have done it , what do I need ? Where can I go in SE Qld, What is the cost ? , is there a group I can tag along with etc

I'm going to use the Aprilia, I have prep work do such as servicing the power valves, fitting new sintered pads, and change the trans oil, the rest of the bike seems in good nick and my tyres are almost brand new so I should be sweet:thumb_ups:

Im going to do a run down the coast on Saturday and check out Shark Leathers http://www.sharkleathers.com.au and see if I can source a reasonably priced set. I have heard that leather boots are a also a pre req, can anyone confirm this as my boots are plastic

Went down to Shark Leathers http://www.sharkleathers.com.au/ to try some on, the guys there were super helpful and kitted me out with leathers, skins, boots and gloves for a bargain :thumb_ups:

The RS250 is in bloody good nick and Im not sure I want to turn it into a track bike. I have been looking at Yong's CBR250, he has indicated I can buy it from him, however it is in need of some work, plus Yong I think deep down wants it on the road :) , I did build a C model ZXR250 a few weeks back out of all the spares I had lying around, maybe thats what I use. The issue is Im broke, I picked my Honda up today and had a $500 excess so the kitty is dry... maybe I need to sell some stickers :)

Yea the C model sounds like a good starter bike....at least when or if u throw it down the road...... the 2 smoker might be a bit nimble to throw into the corners initially and it would be a shame to bend it.

Broke is certainly the go ATM ..... hopefully Mr Taxman is as generous as last year.

Charge risky $20 a sticker...he has plenty of money :imtheking:

You have 3 options for tracks in SEQ.
Queensland Raceway - fun the first time, less fun the fewer CC's you have.
Lakeside - Not allowed there unless you have done something like 3 other trackdays first.
Morgan Park - awesome on 250's, biggest issue is dates - track days are only run on friday's before a race weekend - approx once a month.
Morgan Park track days you get to run a transponder as part of the day so you get lap times!
QR and Lakeside do not have this option.

    Cheers
    Simon
