Here's a query for those that have tried. What's lambswool (as in a lambswool hide) like as a seat covering?

As Kiffsta will testify, the Suzuki Across seat is hard. I'm looking for a way of softening it up.

Option one is an Airhawk at $145 - the problem with that is you kinda have to remove it if you leave your bike parked in the street, which agreed, isn't a big deal with an Across but then my Across 'trunk' is usually full with gloves, GPS, water bottle, Fogg-off mask, sunnies etc (as if you keep it clear to put your helmet in there).

Option two is getting the Korean guy up the road to re-cover the seat with this stunningly soft black lambswool hide I saw today. He seems to take a lot of pride in his work and immediately showed me a photo album of other bikes he'd re-covered the seats on. They all looked pretty good, and man, this lambswool hide was about 30mm deep, soft 'as', and black as black gets. Cost = $150.

The issue with the lambswool is if it gets wet it could turn into a smelly sheepy smelling piece of crap. Anyone gone down this route and found wet weather can destroy a lambswool cover?

As it is I have a lambswool hide over the front section of the seat which is amply comfortable - but it's just an old kids car seat liner that has seen better days. That got wet yesterday and I just towel dried it with some vigorous towel drying action and it's fine.

Maybe I should dig up an old Across seat and get that re-covered.

Yeah I know, "harden the **** up Brad", but hey, I'm planning a long ride soon and that seat is seriously hard.

    Thoughts anyone?

Hey Brad, great subject and one close to all (backsides). Sometime back I bought a Honda CBR1100 and found after my first ride that Honda make great motorcycles but don't extend any thought to rider comfort at all. My first thought was to go sheep skin cover and like yourself getting wet didn't inspire me at all. So I bought an Airhawk and frankly have never looked back, as the tag and adds say, NO MORE NUMB BUM. Now, no matter how long I spend in the saddle I simply don't feel any discomfort. Brad, have a good look around and choose what best fits your needs and go for it. Comfort must be high on the agenda as a long ride can become a nightmare. Good luck with your choice.  Phil
