    Hey guys n girls,

    How's it going?

New member here and first post so go easy.
Just bought a 2004 cb250 as a project. :help: Going to do an engine rebuild as there is oil leaking from a couple of spots. Also, the right cylinder has stopped firing! Still has good spark so not really sure why its not firing. A mate has said a valve may be stuck and need to re-adjust the tappets. Sound right?

While I've got the engine out, what other work should I be doing? valve stem seals? piston rings?

Also, which workshop manual should I get?

Sorry for the thousand questions and cheers in advance for the help.

    Jon

Top end rebuild in order by the sounds of it. But first, check that the valve cover bolts are tight. Sometimes they can work loose.

What's in a top end rebuild?

    New Pistons & Rings
    New Base/Head Gasket
    Valve clearance check/shim adjustment
Valve stem seals as you said
    New valve cover gasket
    New cam chain + Tensioner

Do you need all of that? Not necessarily. But the gaskets are essential if you are taking the head off.

Since the bike is not too old, and not a grey import, parts should be easy to find. After you do the rebuild, it'll be like a new bike!

As for the right cylinder not firing. Pull the plugs and see what they're like. New ones if suspect (or swap them to check). Could be running rich from carby settings (unless it's EFI) or oil contamination in the cylinder.

For access to manuals, you need to make a $5 donation to help the site. Also post some pictures of your bike!

if the valve clearances are off it will be hard to start but will with abit of effort.

Thanks for all the help so far.

So pulled the plugs last night and the right was covered in a thin carbon layer. Cleaned with a wire brush and checked the spark, both had strong blue sparks.

Swapped the ignition leads over to see if I had a dodgy lead and still only the left side would fire.

Mike, will check the coil pack and high tension wire. What exactly should I be looking for here? And thanks for the link but I own a cb250 not cbr. Will pay the $5 for the manual from here.

Photos to come when I get a chance.
