Possible to stiffen up the suspension by changing the oil?

It has fair bit of sag when I initially sit on it, then it also is fairly bouncy. (comparing to other friends sports bikes. Havent had a chance to test another FZR .. )

Im not that big, only bout 75kg.

I highly doubt the seals or the oil have ever been changed. Is this basic maintenence?

    Its done about 40k.....

Don't mind sacrificing a bit of comfort for better handling.

Anyone that knows how to do this could give a quick run down?

    Thanks,
    Step

r the forks leaking oil? check the forks above the seals...they should be dry. If they aint leakings theres prob no point replacing them....maybe the amount u put in might change the characteristics?

    Seems to be no leaks..

But using different rating oil gives different stiffness?

i have the same problem. When i was looking for FZR's i tried 3 different bikes before buying mine. All FZR's had the same thing, very soft suspension, although none of them ever bottomed out, i assumed it was the normal thing for FZR suspension to do.

however the other day i was told by a member of ORS.com who is a motorcycle suspension mechanic that the suspension is way too soft, and with my weight on it (95kg) is dangerous if i riding the hell out of it around corners.

he said the oil has prob never been changed, is not a thick enough grade, prob not enough oil in the forks or the dampening holesd in the forks are too big, allowing too much oil to get through and therefore not slowing the compression of the forks down as quickly as it should.

If you have this problem you should do something about it before summer, as in summer the viscosity of the oil will thin out due to the heat, making you're forks even more soft/saggy.

I will be re-building my forks in the next couple of weeks. change of oil, replace seals, possibly even replace spring (depending on prices).
will post some pics / how to guide when i've done it.

forks are coming off tomorrow, going in to get rebuilt. SHould take about 3 days, costing around $300.00

But it will be worth it, it's getting dangerous now, especially around rough corners.

    pics and details to come...

Different weight oil and new springs will do the trick.
