I Have a 3hx1 FZR250 Exup Model I Brought it about 2 weeks ago and I Have a few problems with it

    1. Idles Great when Cold
    2. Stop at Intersection It dies on me unless I keep reving it
    3. serges and slows down when I sit on a steady speed
    4. Serges after about 13000 RPM
    5. When Warmed Up It ether Idles at 3000 RPM or Chokes out

Does Anyone know what my problem could be as I have just had my carby rebuild but it was doing it before I had it done.. <!-- s:sniper: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_snipersmilie.gif" alt=":sniper:" title="Sniper" /><!-- s:sniper: -->

Could be a few things. I would have suggested carbies as a possibility, but that doesn't sound like it is (given that you said they were rebuilt).

The other option could be the exup valve not openning properly (can cause lots of problems). The surging could be explained by this. Stalling definitely can. If the exup valve doesn't open then there is excess exhaust build-up, and if there is excess build-up then there is inadequate fuel/air flow which then causes stalling.

As a quick check if this is the problem wire the exup valve open (you can find this under the stand on the left side, below a metal plate). Unhook the cables - leave them dangling for now (you can find a permanent solution if required), and turn the valve clockwise until it won't go further. Wire this in place however you can. then try out the bike.

And congrats on the purchase! The fzr is a good bike.

(p.s. the surge after 13 000 revs - likely because the exup valve fully opens when it hits 12 000 revs so that is the surge you will feel. It is noticable and is just a trait of teh bike).

    Bike

    Hey Indy,

Hows things and welcome to our site and forum. Hope your time here is enjoyed. Do you mean a 1HX engine? Because 3LN is to do with the frame and 1HX is the engine. Any how, I would have a good look at the carbs. Take them apart and clean and just look for dirt or grease etc. Rebuld them and set them to the correct factory settings. Then look at spark plugs and ignition leads for cracks or exposed wires.
Grab a volt meter and check that there isnt a great voltage drop across your fuel pump and that the fuel filter is clean. Thats the main things thatn need to be check and also check the coils.

Just to let you know I think the bike shop might have found the problem ..

They adjusted the mixture screw for 3 turns to 2.25 turns and one of the o-ring plates in the carby was fitted upside down.. and they adjusted the exup cable

wil let you know for sure when i get it back in a few days and have time to go for a ride

thanks to everyone who shared their ideas on the problems
