Hey all, can't find any topics about this so thought I'd start one up. Lately I've noticed when I start my bike for the first time of the day it drops onto 3 cylinders, if I give it a bit of gas it comes back onto 4 cylinders. <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->
I've spoken to a mechanic about it and he thinks it could be carbon built up on the valves causing valves to stick open, says it's common with the 250's. Does this sound like it could be the problem?
He recomended I take the air cleaner off, start it up and give it a bit of **** while I spray a fine mist of water down carbies. He said it will cough n splutter while doing it but it is a good way of cleaning the carbon off valves without paying lotsa cash. What do you guys think??? Thanks.

Might work. Try a new set of spark plugs. Cant hurt. Could be a carb problem too..

hi on my 90 3ln i have this problem that it keeps getting a failed spark plug in cylinder 3.
when you change it you get about a week of riding and then it will just stop you change it and then the same again.
this has been happening now for a month (4 spark plugs)..
has anyone else had this happen or have heard of this happening?

You probably should be checking the specs of the coil against the values they give you for checking it in the workshop manual.

Perhaps the coil is cooking the plugs or the lead on that coil is no good.

    Workshop manual and a multimeter.

    Cheers, Bob.

Is the plug fouling up with black carbon?. Might be a carby problem for that cylinder.

If you're running particularly rich on one cyl, I'd check the float needle for that carb - you've probably got a bit of crap fouling the valve, preventing it from closing and leading to overfuelling.
