    different places will have different restrictions placed on certain motorbikes to keep them within limits for that country. So it is very possible that a 250 could be restricted by as much as 5 hp.

    For example, I know that Australian drive trx850's have greater horsepower than the japanese drive equivelant. So if you buy a japanese version you are actually down 8 hp I believe. This is because japanese have more stringent emmision laws than in Australia.

    So hearing about the 250 restrictions I could beleive it. I would be surprised if they are world-wide though - else there would be a very easy market for de-restricting 250's.

    yeah but do ye know anything about how the 112mph (180kph) restriction works or how you can find it if it exists?? has anybody got more than 180kph outta their fizzers? perhaps some racers may be able to shed some light on this...i heard that some of the honda ones are linked to the speedometer on the front wheel,apparently there is a strip of metal that you can bend back to derestrict them (the hondas). i de-restricted my old honda nsr 80 by removing a rubber insert in the airbox which was restricting the airflow to the carburettors,got another 5mph!!! but i heard most of the japanese domestic models are restricted in the cdi unit so..............

    check this OLD thread out: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=174">viewtopic.php?t=174</a><!-- l -->

    Says over 200...

    I haven't heard of many 250's being able to get over 180 though without modifications. After all what can you really expect from a 250?

    200? cbr? hmm yeah ok. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
    I took the fizzer to redline in 6th and I recon it was at 190 at the most. Considering that the speedo stops at 180 but not 200.

    And teh other factor people must consider (when talking top speed) is that speedometers are not calibrated for those speeds. They are usually calibrated for city speeds (i.e. 60 kph) or another convenient set speed (100 kph). Within Australia the design regs (ADR's) say that speedometers must be within the indicated speed by 10% throughout the range between 0-60 kph (thus theoretically you could be sitting at 60 kph but really you could be doing anywhere between 54-66).

    When calibrating against my wifes car she was going an indicated 60 kph while my bike was going an indicated 65. Don't know who's correct, but considering I have not received a speeding ticket and I regularly exceed the limit by 10 kph in town I am inclined to think that my speedo overestimates my speed by about 5 kph at 60 (because then if I am doing indicated 70, I am actually doing 65, which is just on the cusp of receiving a ticket through a speed camera).

    Further, When you get to the upper reaches of the speedo bikes are notorious for over estimating the actual speed. Unless you get a radar gun to calibrate one really will never know what speed their top speed actually is. I have heard the recommendation to take off 5 kph for every 50 k's you are doing above 100 (i.e. 150 indicated = 145, 200 indicated = 190, 300 indicated = 280). I doubt the scientific accuracy of this recommendation, but at least it stops fish stories.

    Yet another factor is the size tire that you have on the front.

    If you have ANYTHING other than stock size it will also throw off the speedo. Not by huge amounts mind you, but as you venture into the upper ranges it does make a difference.

    I'd say that on my 1000, which came with a 130/70/17, I'm off by at least 5mph @ 60mph by using a 120/60/17. As much as 15 mph in the buck 20 range. I'll be switching to a 120/70/17 next.

    Actually I had the complete opposite on my bike...when I was sitting on 100..I was at least doing 110km/h.

    As for the top speed of the fizzer...never really found a long enough stretch of road to test it on...and with the speedo out as much as it was....it would be inaccurate anyway..id say it would get to around 170.

    Interested to see what the rgv will do. Id say over 200, as the speedo says 240

    I have had my bike up to 170 and it was on 17k redline (its a 2kr) i havent tested it with the new back tyre as i only have one point left on my licence for 1 year. Jarmizz that dude from NZ has a 3ln and he said he had it off the clock (180) he thinks it was going around 190k or so.
