hey guys. my fairings are pretty cracking quite alot and are brittle as all hell and i was considering just replacing the front ones completely. ive got the money to spend but i dont want to pay more than i have to as you can imagine :p . i just got quoted 285 each for top, left and right new fibreglass replica fairings for an 1989 model. is this a good price to be paying for them?
it was quoted by www.showandgo.com.au

don't know the cost of new fibreglass ones. To get fairings from a wrecker you would probably be looking at $300-$400 for a set though.

Tbone (a member on this site) may give you a better idea as I think he is looking to make moulds for the fzr and make his own replacement fairings...

thanks Boz. i just checked on the part finder website and thats what they sent back at me. 300 - 400 ish ey... sounds a bit better if they are in decent condition, or is that dodgey, nearly screwed, brittle as all hell, cracked condition?

As thing go I'm the resident fairing expert... or at least I like to think so

Ok the prices you have been given through the part finder are just about correct.. $400 sould get you a mit side (one fairing) and $300 gets you some thing a bit scrached but compleate... pity you have almost 0 chance of getting the right colour... unless your bike is original and not sun damaged... for a top fairing... add $50 and good luck in finding one that has not been repaired several times...

$250 to $295 gets you a new fiberglass replacement (side faring) which needs paiting... for a top fairing... add $50 and good luck in finding one that fits... especialy with the 3LN-1...

so from the wreckers you will be looking at $1200 for a mint set and $800 for a compleate one (posibly with s/h fiberglass bits) for $750 you can get top and sides in new fiber glass...

NOW I will be making top and sides... and posibly the rear (as one pice) in about a week or two (thanx to TimBus) They will fit 3LN-3 As yet I dont know the exact price but it looks like $220 for the sides and $250 for the top, $250 for the rear... I will also look into giving every one who buys through tis forum a discout... especialy when buying more than one part...

The fairings I'm making are stronger than the ones sold at Vic motorcycle wreckers and they will fit better too... also any one buying from me will have an option to trade in their old fairings (i'll take any thing into consideration) Also once I have the moulds I can do major repairs...

you sure know what your talking about its awesome to hear your making fairings for the 3ln-1 but unfortunately mines a 2k also its a bit hard for me to get to you to do paint work but good that you now have a place to do it. fortunately i have all the gear to do spray work, a place to do it and some experience so i should be all good in that department. thanks for the advice and prices. it gives me a better idea what im looking at

btw these are the fairings in question. the sides arent so bad but the upper one is snapped off on one side where the screen bolts on. the rears are fine however.

They look like an easy repair.. there are a fiew good guys (back yard operators) in brisbane area... as well there is a major importer there as well... from memory they had a shop opposite Shogun Honda?? (i lived in Brisbane 5 years ago)

Also about that time I was getting all the 250 fairings from brisbane as they were a $100 cheaper than in melbourne... I'll ask some of my contacts and see if I can find you some one good to do the repairs...

thanks dude that would be much appreciated! i wasnt sure about them because i dont want to go to all the trouble of fixing and spraying if they are going to crack up straight away again. do you think the top one can be fixed even though the top of the lhs windshield mount is gone? thanks again!

Tbone keep us posted on your fairings. I'm looking into buying 3LN-3 sides and front. My local wrecker sells em all for 250 each, and he won't do me a discount for buying all 3 at once the bastard.

If your willing to post to sydney somehow let us know.
