I replaced my clutch due to slipping and followed koma's howto but after taking it for a spin just then it turns out to slip about 5 times as much as before. It will slip from as low as 4000rpm in any gear lol. I thought this was ganna be the moment where my bike really came together but now I feel like I this bike will never run good. ONTOP of that while checking the oil yesterday I forgot I had the stand up and went to ease the bike down.... CRASH left mirror ****** broken **** everywhere ffs 2nd drop now I'm thinkin after all these problems I've had I might just hang up my helmet <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_redface.gif" alt="" title="Embarassed" /><!-- s -->
Ok, so you've replaced the clutch plates with brand new ones? Other things that spring to mind... - Did you replace the steels or just the fibres?( If not the steels probably need a good scour to get old burnt on oil off them.) - Adjusted the clutch cable? I know it sounds obvious but if it's not releasing fully that will very easily explain a slipping clutch! - Worn clutch basket? Whilst you were changing over the plates did you notice any notching on the basket? If yes this could be contributing to the slipping problem by not allowing the plates to properly engage. - Springs within spec? Did you pad out the springs like i mentioned to give them a bit more force?
I took it all apart again and fiddled with the centre screw inbetween the springs (made it taught/firm) and it seems to be working ok now. I have to test it out more since it needs to be run in but I think I just had that adjustment screw out of wack. Your howto would be even better if you explained the proper adjustment for that thing koma <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s --> Fingers crossed
Hehe, well my rule is DON'T play with the internal adjustment thingy as theres usually more than enough adjustment at the bar end! The only time i'd imagine you'd need to use the internal adjustment is if you were changing the number or thickness of the clutch plates... which isnt something i'd recommend mere mortals like you and i do. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
Revving it up to 16000 in 2nd for the first time with no slips was like riding a new bike <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s --> The only issue I have now is fuelling. I've adjusted the idle screws but I need to adjust that circlip thing everyones talking about. I've been in the carbs before and didn't see anything like this... Is it in 2KR's? Do I just make the needles sit lower to run more lean? If anyone had a picture of this adjuster I would greatly appreciate it
