just put new leads and plugs carnt start the bike. When i try to start it sound like a poping sound out of the pipe and a spray from top off the carbi when choke is on any help whould be welcome ill pos a vid off whats happerning.
test the plugs one by one up against the head, should be a nice blue spark as it cranks, repeat x4 and thats all i can think of, man i hope its nothing bad
After performing the test that Cal recommended, make sure that you have all the leads connected to the correct cylinders. Just a thought.
I'll second that. Very easy to mix up when changing leads Also, you have the right plugs spark plugs (NGK CR9E)?
Hi to me it sounds just like you've mixed up the leads and its backfiring, or you may have a cylinder missing if you have not correctly fitted new leads or caps.
Dont i feel like a dumass mixed up plugs so ran them the right way whent to start it now all i get is a click in the junction box everytime i press start button checked battery and was only 11.6 volts so charged it and put it back in still all i get is a click. It did this when i bourt the bike so i charged battery then it was fine thanks for geting me on the right track just need to sort out this problem now life with a zxr
The starter motor draws a lot of amps. It does this as follows. You press the button and that throws the starter relay which connects the power to the starter motor. So you need: 1/ Fully charged serviceable battery. 2/ Good wires, terminals & connections. 3/ Good relay. 4/ Functioning starter motor. Usually if number 1 & 2 are ok it is the relay that is playing up. They don't last forever, consider them a service item. Sometimes you can just tap a faulty relay and it will make contact, and you can also just bypass the relay by running a jumper to see if that is the problem. cheers Blair
I had the same thing on the zxr, I persevered with the battery until I got sick of push starting it, bought a new good quality battery & problem gone. It could be that youve killed the battery with all the cranking, borrow another or try a jump start & see what happens. A crook battery will still read 12v but but it won't produce when cranking.
message from Mapo69, Hi check your battery terminals are on correctly, give them a wiggle and keep hitting the starter if nothing works there locate your solenoid in front of you battery its a golfball size unit with two terminals on top check the connections if you want to test it turn your keys to on and short out between the two nuts on the solenoid with a screw driver it may spark but dont be scared it cant zap you if shes winds overs youve got a dodgy conections somewhere if she doesnt your battery may be nackered or the solenoid itself if its still clicking.
Yessum Kiffsta is right and I am too old. The relay for starter motors, is in fact the solenoid. Put me down for a beating
if it is shottgunning the battery or starter are faulty.get a motobatt battery as they have more lead and stand up better.
Thanks heaps Chris just tryed screwdriver trick and fired up strait away so have a bad conection some where ill checkit all out and let you guys know. Just orded a motobatt risky i got one off ebay $90+ post heard there good so ill give it a go. thanks for all the help guys and Cal new pipe sounds sweet
I would love to take the credit but it deserved needs go to Daniel, aka Mapo 69 , he accidentitally replied to the notification e-mail that this thread up updated, all I did was post his reply...
next step is a spray can of electrical contact cleaner. undo bolts to battery, solenoid, starter, fuses and spray, wipe off any grunge and spray again, clean the bolts and nuts and screw back down.while at it do all the snap connectors you can find.normally the shottgunning is faulty battery. when you connect the battery run a positive and negative lead to an easy spot to put a self regulating charger on if needed.
contact cleaner rocks - also acts as "start ya bastard" for a stubborn motor i found (good spud cannon fuel too )
