did you guy's hear about this? I just did and I think it's awesome, no mod plate needed. Reclassification of modifications to change a motorbike's seating capacity - Commenced 1 July 2014 As part of Queensland Government's commitment to reducing red tape and regulation, Transport and Main Roads has conducted a review into the approval requirements for changes to a motorbike's seating capacity. As a result of this review, Transport and Main Roads has decided that these modifications will now be reclassified as basic modifications, meaning that vehicle owners will be able to self-certify the modification, provided the modification meets the requirements of the LL section of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification. Certification by an Approved Person and affixing of a modification plate will no longer be needed for this modification. This means that from 1 July 2014: A motorbike owner who wants to change the seating capacity of their vehicle can do so without needed to see an Approved Person. The technical requirements about seat length and pillion foot provisions still apply and must be followed. These can be found in the LL section of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (PDF, 309 KB) ( http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/S...e modifications/NCOP/9sectionllmotorbikes.pdf ). Until these changes start, if you want to change the seating capacity of a motorbike you must follow the current process and have a modification plate fitted by an Approved Person.
And at $140/280 why wouldnt you?? Its long over IMHO. Seat covers have been available for years, and its a simple mod on alot of bikes. Take seat off, put cover on. I mean, not that hard!
just a quick one for the guy's in QLD, mate of mine who just renewed his rego for a year decided to do the single seat thing. he has already paid for the rego and went into QLD trans, filled out a form and handed it in without them even seeing his bike and it was accepted. he had to send a copy of the form to his 3rd party provider and they are going to send him the diff on the price he paid. when he went into qld trans he still had the pillion pegs on and normal seat on the back, but he has taken the pegs off and cowl on order.
Because my bike was already plated for single seat (when i brought the bike still had rear pegs and seat) all i had to do was remove rear pegs and weld a bolt through the holes, wasn't made to remove the rear seat or anything.
