Hi all, new to this wonderfull site and just bought my FZR250...now so far the only problem i've had is this:

Now few days ago test ride was sweet, revs fine got mean grunt in all...

Next day my tank hit reserve on another ride, So switched to reserve now when i did this i gave it time for the lines to refill in all...but i started to lose all my power..more i rode the less i got untill even in second gear it was struggling. K now at first i thought it was a reserve line clog, so i checked it, it was all good, then i thought it was maby struggling for air because somthink i did to it the day before but no it wasn't that either...now at the moment i think it is the fuel pump..sounds like its struggling and with a full tank...runs fine, because i reckon with a full tank the extra weight pressure an all from the petrol is helping the fuel pump get it all the way to the engine, even in reserve with a full tank it's all good..Just not when it gets low on gas.

So what's all your guys theories. Thanks in advance sorry for my english. I'm 17.

well i recon its just because the fzr fueltank is a bit of a crappy shape.
just dont let it get to reserve.
i have to run mine on reserve line all the time because i cant be bothered to buy a new valve to fix the main line. and it just seems to be when theres not a lot of fuel in there it dosnt run as nice as when full..

interesting. When you turn your ignition with switch set to run, you should hear some clicking noises which then stop which is your fuel pump. Do you get those?
This might sound strange, but have you actually seen your fuel pump? they can run without.

Yes, when the ignition is turned and kill switch on, the pump and EXUP do there thing, the pump sounds like its struggling and the fuel filter right next to it (yes i've seen the pump) is only getting a pinch of gas in it, doesn't even look like it's reaching the next line to make it to the pump (the pump is sucking from the filter to itself then pushing to the carby).
Not even sure if the fuel pump is the fult,
also have you tryed running it without, does it work, didn't think there was enouph presure for it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

what does your fuel filter look like? might be clogged and old. Replace it, I paid $8 for one.

Yea well i wanted to take a look but i'm gona let my full tank go to reserve, see if it does the same thing again cuz it goes great atm with a full tank.

I'll put some carb cleaner through it sometime to sounds like the bouls have thick fuel in it or somethink i got from a mechanic.

Your intake screen could be fouled at the bottom - works great for main, choked off for reserve.

Go along with that.

I think the 3LN has two hoses coming from the tank. If you can get the hoses off the tap, make sure that they both have a good flow of petrol.

Thank's guy's yea, i checked both lines they got plenty going through them, also checked the tap end, on reserve and on full it's all good...

Ok now i went for another ride today, was really good i had a full tank too..but then going up this hill I started to loose power (as you would going up a hill) but when i changed down the bike had allready just gone..it lost it's power (flooded or somethink) so i went in nuetral stoped and had to pull full throttle to keep it ideling..took me awile but i managed to bring it a bit more up the hill and turn around t go back down the hill, and as soon as i went in first and the momentem helped the engine turn over faster the bike picked up again, and luckely i made it home, but after another ride 1hour later it did the same thing but not going up a hill...just turning in second gear, there was a car behind me so i needed to speed up but it just couldn't do it. Had to push it home i want my baby working...

Maybe it just really hates reves anywhere below 6k? i dont know..do i have to change gear at 14k revs or somthink..i mean it shouldn't be like that... i know it's a 4cyl bike and has no low end pow..but still this aint right.

yeah definitely, i'm almost always below 6000 unless i'm having some fun.

my guess is maybe there was some gunk in the bottom of the tank or something so check the fuel filter, and run some carb cleaner through. Has the bike ever been running good since you got it or was there problems right from the start?

(oh and my bike idles like a pig on a hill but on flat or if i'm moving on a hill its fine)

Well when i got it, it was sweet i guess..well i gave it a run and it would go fine, till it hit reserve...as it says in the first post...but even now when a full tank is there, the same problem. I've been meaning to chuck some carb cleaner, atm i'm checking if the coil or somthink is giving out, because it doesnt want to start at all now..not even fire.

Might pay to do a battery and regulator check. These bikes will crank over but not fire if the battery is flat.

Yea i took off the main hose going to the carbs (after the filter and fuel pump) and gas poored out when the pump turned on so that rules the pump issue out...maby the jets are blocked i dunno.

It would pay to clean your carbs, even if it diesnt fix the problem you need to keep them spotless.

Your describing the same symptons mine had before it died.
But im guessing yours isnt blowing smoke.

And do what dave said

Ok guys, i took the spark plugs out today and tested them, they were completly carbon fouled and some had no spark...so i'm wondering what the most common reason would be for this carbon fouling, Thanks in advanced.

Oh and btw these spark plugs are quite new, they were replaced before i bought the bike, not sure how long ago though maybe been sitting for awile.
