My story from last night:
On my way home from work at around 8:30. Going down a semi-major road (4 lanes, 60 km/hour). Anyways it wasn't too busy and I was following a group of cars going a bit fast (i.e. ~70). Next thing i know I see nice red and blue lights behind me. Damn. Why me and not the other cars? It was a motorcycle cop by the way.

So pulled over, hopped off, and had a guilty conscious. Exchanged pleasantries (truly - I'm polite to police), and then he asked for my license. So I asked why he chose to stop me and not the other cars. His answer - "What - you think I stopped you for speeding? You were, but I stopped you because I thought you should have L or P plates on your bike". Asked why - "You are on a 250 road-race bike, and that was enough for me. Not many people choose to keep their 250's much past the end of their restriction". I said "I need a new bike", he said "I wouldn't have bothered had you been on a bigger bike". Or at least something to that effect.

So no ticket - he wasn't out to do that. Quick breath test, and off he went after checking my registration (2 days out of date, but paid the update about 10 days ago - just haven't put the sticker on).

The things I learned:
1) Not all police are out to get you
2) Guilty consciouses are sometimes wrong
3) Need a new bike (3rd time I've been stopped for not having L or P plates, and police assumed I would...)

night class unfortunately. But I have had approval from my wife to get an upgrade (now that I am married I must ask about these things). Still want a mid-bore sports tourer. Thinking about vfr's, and also about rf900r's. Unfortunately yamaha doesn't have any decent mid-bore sports-tourers. The fz1 is an option, but since it is new it is out of my price bracket. The tdm is a ugly bike (in my opinion). I have also considered a yamaha yzf 600 - a bit older but a bit more pillion friendly than the r6's.

bike

I have seen and read things on the YZF600 Thundercat and everything as been nothing but good. They have a nice tour style frame suited to carrying people and long trips. They have a R6 engine slightly de-tuned to suit the style of riding that the bike is built for. They only problem with these engines, and the R6 have them to is the clutch baskets are prone to fail but this isnt a problem if the bike is looked after well. The reason I looked into these bike so much is because once I can afford it its a toss up between one of these or a R6. They arnt expensive and are pritty new.

IF you havnt heard of a Thundercat then your not alone cause there arnt that well known, they are a sister bike to the YZF1000 Thurnderace which is a awesome bike, which utilizes the R1 engine.

Is the yzf600 the thundercat? I have read/heard a lot about the yzf600 and just wanted to be sure that it is one and the same as the thundercat. Or are there different varieties.

Out of my own curiosity I checked out www.bikepoint.com.au - it is cheaper to buy a 1998 yzf1000 than it is a 1998 yzf600 (both with reasonably same kilometers).

Yeah it is the thundercat, nice bikes. A friend of a friends just brought a Thunderace, ugly as but nice engines. Good touring bike
