Chiang: It's a 3ln3, 1992, so it's the last of them I think.

There is a noise of an electric motor, but that's the sound of the exup valve priming itself...

I would normally be inclined to believe that it's because it needs a service, but I've had it done not long ago (less than 500kms ago). It must be something to do with the float levels. but I don''t believe I've ever had the carbs balanced, so that could be a problem too...

if you have a fuel pump, youll hear another noise along with the exup mechanism priming itself... the pump itself is under the fuel tank... youll have to take off one of the rear side fairings to see it.... from memory, i think mine has a reddish colour pipe coming from it...

Fizzer: Moly grease is a hi-temp. I just don't know how to spell the full name. If that doesn't help, replace the valve. Be warned that when trying to take the valve out, you may run into seized bolts.

On the cutting out issue, try to clean the gas cap. There is a hole that goes through the cap to act as a breather. If that is clogged then a vaccum will be created in the tank and neither gravity nor fuel pump will overcome this.

Not to be a butt, but I don't feel like rewriting how to adj the EXUP so I'll just have to find the link where I did the write up.

Let me know how you get along.

there is a description of this at viewtopic.php?t=441 - see second posting in that thread (the first post has a link to r1 service manual pages describing how to adjust the exup - same process on the fzr250). It was written by a since-departed fzr250.com administrator.

Thanks guys -FZRdude: I've already had the exup out before and there was no prob. with seized bolts, but I can see where the movement and hence the rattle is coming from. Thanks for the tip about the breather hole in the fuel cap - I was wondering if there was somethign that could be blocked. I'll see if that's the problem.

As for adjusting the exup, I don't think that's the prob, but I know where the link is - thanks again for the help.

cheers,
Glenn
