    Hey guys,
I read from one of the guys over on the netrider forum that he used to have a fzr250 and when I told him of some of the problems I had he said he could totally relate but also offered me an interesting piece of advice.

This is interesting can anyone shed some light on this topic? I've often heard people say that the exup valve was developed on these bike to give them good torque in the low to mid range revs however this as we all know is bollocks. Could this original pipe be the key? It's a bit wierd cuz my pipe "looks" just like the one in the jap brochure but yeah, Has anyone tried it if it does exist?, and if so where can I get my hands on one... gimme gimme gimme...

The benifits of an EXUP Valve is not a myth. Look at the exhaust on the newer bikes, like the GSXR 1000.... it now has a power valve in it. Don't know what it is called in the Suzuki camp, but they have taken Yamaha's lead in this. Yamaha started it back in 89 I think.

I know they exist just dunno if they are doing what they are intended to do. How about in the states do you know if your pipes are changed when they are imported?

As far as I know FZR250's in the US are as rare as rocking horse ****.

I saw some pics of an FZR250 in Japan on bikepics and even in the brochure, that have exhausts that look exactly the same as mine. If they where going to replace so many exhausts on import I doubt that they would make a replica of the old one. I would bet you that the exhaust on my bike is the standard pipe.

As for the exup I am sure the likes of Suzuki wouldn’t add a "power valve" ala Yamaha if it was useless. Reducing weight is a big design factor in modern sports bikes, adding crap that doesn’t work kinda works against that. On the 250, gains might be somewhat comical in comparison to the bigger bikes but it doesn’t mean it is crap.

I fitted the EXUP cables (when I got my bike it had none) and it made huge improvement to the 3000-6000 rev range - much easier in traffic and around town.
It does not seem to run rich and lose power.

The power valve does work - just remember that the 250 only has ~40 HP to begin with, so increasing the low-mid range power may increase the hp from say 15-20 - not a huge increase, but it is a noticable one (numbers are approximations as I have not seen a fzr250 dyno)

As for pipes - having your engine ill-tuned with regards to your pipes then the result will be bad regardless if it is a stock or aftermarket pipe.
