The 2KR oil filter is in the underside of the sump. There is a plate with 3 bolts that you remove and it falls out, but you have to remove the exhaust system out of the way first.

Not sure if all model 3LN's are fitted with the screw on oil filter type on the front of the engine block , some may be the same as 2KR's. I am sure some one will confirm that.

    Good luck

The early 3LN's (3LN1) had the same or extremely similar setup to the 2KR with the cartridge filter inserted into the bottom of the sump region.
The later 3LN's (3LN2-7) had a spin on filter (like most car filters) on the lower left hand side of the sump.

The front mount spin on filters are only on the bigger FZR's like my 1000 where there's enough room to get an arm and even a head in there! I must say, workin on the the 1000 is incredibly easy compared to the smaller bikes. It seems like the engineers designed it so even big hands can get in there with ease! Perfect for me. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

As for the part number of the oil filter, it's easiest if you can get into a Yamaha dealer as i don't have part numbers to hand. The later 3LN-3+ spin on filters i believe there is a car filter that is almost identical, but not 100% sure, only rumoured.

Not if the 3ln1 has the bottom fitted unit held in place by a plate.

If you want pictures, let me know and I will post some more up to Bikepics.

The filter cartridge for the early models that fits in under the sump is a K&N KN145 if you are after a non genuine yamaha unit..

Filter for 3LN1 is as shown here.
Available from Wemoto(U.K.), it says 2KR on their site but this is the one for the 3LN1 also, (needs an o-ring).

The Yamaha part number for the internal filter is 4X7-13440-90, o-ring is 93210-64297.
For the 3LN3 the filter number is 3FV-13440-00.
