    Hello all

Just got my bike through the road test (MOT) and now have to change the oil before i actually start to ride the bike frequently.

Any of you found better oil than the fully synthetic 20w40 i was kindly recomended by a Fzr genius? (any guesses who that is....)

i am going to buy it in bulk and get a few oil filters as well as i inted to change the oil every 3,000 km's.

Also foam K&N type pod filters for the carbs - is there much benefit and is there a need for rejetting if you use them?

    Cheers all

I use the 'shell advance 4 stroke oil'. I forget what the thickness is, but is "specially formulated for use on high performance 4 stroke motorcycles". <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> I trusted them, and seems to be working well. Cost is about $24 / large bottle.

    oil.... help quick ish anyone?

    Hello

Does everyone use 20w40 fully synthetic or do some people find that 10w40 fully synthetic works fine?

Theres no difference in running temperatures its just the 10w40 is slightly thinner surely - which must be a good thing i am thinking?

    any help much appreciated

    Gaz

The age old 'which oil' question has now made its way into the forum.

Depending on riding conditons, o.e. temperature, 20W is fine alround oil. If you live in cold environment, especially during winter, 10W maybe more your style.

Now the next Taboo topic is Car vs Bike oil. I personally use car oil, full synthetic. (usually shell). Works out cheaper, and there is no supported evidence that car oil is bad for your bike. EXCEPT, if the oil contains friction modifiers which can stuff the clutch (the oil is labelled if it contains friction modifiers). I have listed a couple of articles on websites below, they make interesting reading.

Good Luck and let us know what you are going to do.

    oil

I use MOTUL full syn. Always use the grade the factory set the bike to run on. People may say its cool to use other oil but remember they arnt the ones getting payed $$$$$$$ to build the engines there for not knowing whats best for it. Read the spec sheet which is on this topic and thats the factory specs.
