hey guys, just started work on this newly aquires 1993 ZXR250C. It wont go into 2nd gear . I does got into 1st and neutral. I havent had it running yet. It does have oil in it. Any thoughts guys. Im thinking selectors. Anyone done this yet, or have other ideas on what it could be. I do need to get my hands on a workshop manual before i start pulling things apart.
Has to be running to engage second https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?...-model-stealth-edition.1949/page-5#post-17592 Manuals here requiring Premium membership https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/categories/zx2r-zxr250.41/ https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?account/upgrades
On most Kawasakis with a positive neutral finder, if you spin the rear wheel fast enough (ie on rear stand) you can engage 2nd gear and get the rest of the gearbox as well. Not great but works in a pinch.
Just clarification, it’s not engine that needs to be spinning, but output-shaft of transmission (rear wheel). There’s some ball-bearings inside shaft that locks 2nd gears into place and won’t let them slide laterally. Certain amount of centripedal force is necessary from spinning shaft to allow them to disenage from gear and allow shift into 2nd gear. Somewhere there’s video of crazy Japanese racer who tears into his Ninja 250’s transmission to ‘fix’ problem of not engaging 2nd-gear while sitting. Then he finds positive neutral-finder “feature”!!!
