I have used it on race slicks (cars) and it does what it says on the label. Be warned though that you have to keep reapplying it to keep the rubber soft as it dries out quickly.
I checked the front tyre on Saturday with a thumbnail and it seemed soft enough. I'm thinking it ultimately came down to my riding style and possibly lack of overall stability at the rear of the bike.
Look at the manufacture date on the sidewall http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/tyre-information.1115/
New rear tyre from last month. This is from the right. Any guesses what might be wrong with this picture? Also the date code was 2913. That would probably be a 2 year old tyre? It looked like there were some small cracks starting to form on the tyre wall though. Took a pic with my phone but must have deleted it.
Bingo! This is the REAR tyre. For clarity, I've replicated the arrow and word on the tyre just next to where they're located on the tyre itself. Going to have to have words with the place that fitted it, which also happens to be where I got the replacement parts from.
I'm no expert, but I imagine this would likely have contributed to the lack of rear traction in the wet? The tread pattern looks pretty directional to me. (Photo from the day it was fitted.)
Yes it looks like they stuffed up the directon of the tyre. Those are dunlop arrowmaxes, the tread is meant to point from the inside out, in your pic it is outside in.
Yep. Taking the bike in tomorrow to get the tyre refitted and possibly replaced. Had it since mid-January.
wont disperse too much water like that bit like drinking beer standing on your head .... my love for mechanics has just increased
Definitely need to get the equipment to fit my own tyres and learn to do so I think. Canberra is pretty average for motorcycle mechanics and dealerships. This one is the lesser of two evils according to most locals I've spoken to. One of the guys on the Friday night ride mentioned that it looked like it was on backwards a few weeks ago but I completely forgot to check it in decent light afterwards.
also Fred ...ask them if they know wat this marker on the tyre is for ..... ? and for anyone that doesn't know its where the tyre should be in relation to the valve..... its deemed the lightest spot , to compensate for the valve and balance.
Yeah will be dropping in during my lunch to see what they'll do for me. Found the receipt for it and will be taking it with me.
New tyres correctly fitted on front and rear now and I only paid for the front one. I'm looking forward to seeing how she handles after the necessary caution for the first 150-200 km - especially on corners and in the wet!
Hmmm a smell of burning rubber on the way home and nowhere near her normal responsiveness above 80. Stopped to investigate and heard scraping from the front wheel. Got home ok but I'm thinking either the new front tyre is the wrong profile for the wheel and is rubbing on something or there's something else wrong with the wheel now. Wasn't like that before the tyre was replaced! Will ride another bike tomorrow and try to figure it out over Easter. Will definitely be calling them again tomorrow though!
Checked the front tyre out last night. This was the one they had fitted. Should have been a 100/80. Just a smidge too big! Got it sorted this morning at the dealer in time to get to work early! They didn't have any Arrowmax front tyres the right size, so I got a Pirelli instead. Will get a pic later today.
I'm thinking I'll get the gear and fit my own tyres once the workshop is in place. It's currently the only thing I don't do myself anyway!
