    Hi Guys,

Just purchased a little bike off my son so that I can have a go on 2 wheels and ultimately play on the track with my son.
Been on 4 wheels for many years and also many rears racing a little open wheeler.
Now I have to down size to a tiny bike on learners to get some experience and be legal.

My bike is a 1998 Honda CBR250RR so only 40hp.

I am likely to want to upgrade this a little later (more horsepower) when I start getting serious on the track so that initially I can stay in the 250cc class.

I would be keen to share info with others about these little 250cc gems.

I have plenty of experience with getting some power out of bigger motorcycle engines. My little race car is motorcycle powered. Here is a link to a little, onboard, video of my race car.

and a its web page http://members.optusnet.com.au/~pwstone/

I am really interested in hooking up with anyone else that has track experience with these little machines.

    Cheers

    Peter.

    :welcome:

Nothing wrong with the 40HP models from any manufacturer, they are great bikes in their own right.

The MC22's are great though as they have gear driven camshafts, unlike the other manufacturers of 250cc inline 4's which use timing chains, and tensioners, which wear out and then your valve timing drifts. No such issue with gear driven cams.

Got a photo of your bike?

    Yep.

She is in very good shape.
I may have to think about how serious I am at taking it to the track.
I will initially start on the road and do a few track days with my son.
Probably will not progress much further than that, as I do not want to bang the bike up (or me).

I do need to invest in some leathers relatively soon and also get my learners.
    Any advice.
I am thinking 2 piece leathers to give me the flexibility to mix and match for road riding and also use for track days.
I do not want to spend a fortune, in case I decide this 2 wheel stuff is not for me.
I am a bit of a short arse (with a gut) so suspect I will have to get something made.
Have been looking at Bikers Gear Australia. They claim they can suit me up for a sensible price and they are only just down the road from me, so easy to get measured up etc.
Anyone got any experience with them.
Also wondering about suit ventilation. Perforated, zip vents or none???? Any thoughts.
Looking at a black and white combo suit to help with visibility on the road.
I will get the leathers made to accommodate a proper back protector and full circumferential zip (pants join) so it meets all the local race regs.
BCA also seem to have reasonable boots.
I have helmets that I use in the car.

    Peter.

Note. The Honda S2000 behind the CBR is in even more amazing nick!!!

If you are going to track it, remove & store the original tank/bodywork and get some 2nd hand ones to use while on the track

    Oh No.
I have gone and purchased another one.
I figured the late model tri-colour was a bit too good to take to the track.
So I found an earlier one (92) that is more fit for the purpose.
Needs a bit of TLC but hopefully it will come up alright.
It also has the bonus extra 5bhp. WoooHooo.

Nice. Since yours will be a track bike, its worth removing the 180km/h restrictor as even the 40HP motors can go faster than that.

    Yes.
It is my intention to do so, but it might be quite some time time before I get up to 180kph. Particularly as my initial practice runs will be at Broadford and Winton.
