Hey all, I got some new brake pads and some brake fluid to put in my zxr250A and thought today would be a wonderful day to install them. I took out the old pads, and installed the brand spankas, problem is, they're too thick and don't leave a wide enough gap to fit back over the rotor. Pistons pushed all the way in, the new brake pads are just too thick!

    Amidoingitright!?

Read a few forums around, some saying to machine the new ones down till they fit, or take out heat shields to increase the gap. I just didn't think that really should be necessary for a new part..

They are an Ebay item, and they were specified to fit a zxr250A. The new pads looked rather good in quality, just too thick.

Any others had this happen? Any opinions on machining etc?
    Cheers, Ed.

had this problem on a car once. gotb a body sander with 40 grit  paper and sanded being vareful not to put a slope on. makes it easier to chamfer the edgesfirst and then file down. use a set of vernier calipers to measure thickness as you go and try fitting and measuringrepeatably. time consuming but works.keep a dust mask on.

it is true, all the pads are made in china and mass produced. they dont really pay too much attention to the tolerances of the pads. it is the same for cars aswell. you can go and buy 3 sets and all will be a different thickness. so you will have to sand them down. it all so depends on how much you have to take off. if it is minimal hold the pad flat on some smooth concreat and rub them around in a circular motion to wear them down a bit. EVERY ONE SHOULD DO THIS BEFORE INSTALLING THEM TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO OIL OR CRAP FROM YOUR HANDS ON THEM. Good luck and hope it helps. :icon_rr:
