Well I've recently got my Ls and bought a 92 FZR last week - it's blue and white with the exup decal and I think the single disc on front (haven't got it in my possession yet!)

What model no. would this be? 311N or what?

Great site guys, sure I'll be using it for tech. tips - I've got a few repairs to do.

Anyone know best place in Sydney to get some spraying done? Also need the rhs fairing.

Hey Fizzer welcome to the site dude!

Is your FZR 92 make date or complicance date, I'm thinkn its a 3LN 1-3 one of those.. one of the guys of the forum will be able to help u with that..

What repairs do you have to do with the bike?
I wouldnt worry about spray painting it much unless u got the spare cash.. i got mine painted from a friiend who did it cheap for me.. but 2 days after it was painted i crashed again.. so expect to drop the bike.. so painting can always wait like when u sell the bike.

Ride safe dude and where abouts in sydney u from?

Not sure - I think it's a 92 make, but can't check just yet until I get the bike on the w/end.

It needs a new front brake cable (old one's snapped at the handle I think) battery needs charging /possibly replacing. Not sure yet what else needs fixing - crossing fingers nothing major, maybe sprocket/chain, but no idea at this stage.

I live in Cronulla, so if you see a blue/white R2 badged FZR in the next few weeks/mths, that'll prob be me

If it has a single disc up front it sounds like a 2kr model (which would mean '92 compliance) 3ln's have dual disc up front. However you also said it was r2 colours - they officially only painted the 3ln models this colour...

Easy check: does it have the deltabox frame (aluminum) or a steel frame? If deltabox it's 3ln, else it is a 2kr.

But congrats on the bike! Whatever it is I am sure you will have fun on it - the fzr is a good bike.

And as Dean said make sure you check out the wreckers. You may be able to find a fairing and also cables etc. for your bike (I replaced my speedo cable with a wrecker part - much cheaper). Obviously chain/sprockets/battery would need to be new.

Just checked the pics a bit closer - it's def. a 3LN, it's got twin discs on the front.

Cool, it must be better having twin discs on front, and an aluminium frame...

    thx

the twin discs are more of a cosmetic change than stopping power. The single disc version has a much larger disc, and the stopping power is about equal on them. However the aluminum frame is stiffer, which is a good thing when riding hard (though it weighs about 4kg more than the steel frame...)

The 3ln model is much more sought after, and will have a higher resale. The 2kr has 'gone out of fashion' - if it ever was in fashion.

Cheers Boz - I just took delivery of the bike yesterday - I'm like a kid on Christmas morning! Now I just want to hear it kick over - battery's flat and I'm not game to clutch start - don't want to end up at the bottom of a slope and still no start - not keen on pushing it back up.

    Checked compliance plate etc - it's def. a 3LN, complianced in 2002.
Also a bit sus. on the k's it's done - all looks fairly tidy apart from the scratched/cracked fairing, but is it realistic that a 12 yr old bike would hve only done 18000 k's? That's only 1500 per year...nothing.

Anyway, hopefully I'll get it running today - may get a mobile mechanic to come around and give the battery a boost for me - I have no charger or jumper leads.

If it was complianced in 2002 then yes, that is a realistic amount. Many fzr's sit in warehouses in Japan before being imported. The import date is the compliance date. So if it was complianced in 2002 then there have only been 2 years riding on it.

I also saw in stores the other day a battery charger that you plug into the wall and attach direct to the bike (no need to remove battery at all). Cost was $30.

it is possible to push start the bike on a flat road. I have done it a few times (before I decided it was time to get a new battery that would hold its charge).

thanks for that - I actually had a new bike battery at my parents place, so fitted that in and tried to crank it over, but a fuse blew. Replaced a 15amp fuse with a 20 amp, and I think this overloaded something, and blew a regulator. One of the little black boxes sitting near the battery burnt out.

I think the reason for the fuse blowing initially was because I had removed the blinker housing earlier in the day to readjust the clutch lever, and when I attached it I've earthed it wrong or something - it was the blinker fuse that blew, then when I replaced this with the wrong fuse, the regulator blew.

Have been trying to find a replacement one, but Yamaha dealers have nothing for imports - may need a 2nd hand one...

Do you have any idea how much this would cost new/2nd hand, or where in Sydney I could get one?
