Ok so here is the build thread I said would post up.

A few months back now I went looking for a good lams bike as I had just got my restricted license. And in the past I had owned CBR 250RR. So when I heard a friend of mine was selling a CBR R for $900 with rego I jumped at the chance. He had told me that it was always garaged (which was a lie). He did tell me it had trouble starting. And for the life of him he couldn't figure it out. After $150 and 2 weeks worth of work I discovered that it was some loose wiring connectors.

And after figuring it out I decided since it was registered I would take it for a ride. And after checking oil, water and plugs I fired her up. This soon turned Into a nightmare. The bike started to run hot while I was on the highway. The temp then dropped so I thought it self out. But as I pulled over I to a servo I noticed the smoke. And that burning oil smell. So after being stuck on the side of the road and the bike not turning over I took my chances. And it fired. So I rode it like I stole it home. And this is where I'm at.

image.jpg This is what greeted me when I took the side cover off. So I'm guessing gaskets.

With out any other signs of leaks beside the bleeding of life blood from the front of the engine I decide to empty all the fluids. This is what met me.

I forgot to add pictures of the bike before I took it apart and when it was running. So here it is image.jpg image.jpg
the second picture is at the servo just as I noticed all the smoke and oil smell coming from the bike.

And today I got to taking off the carbs. And opening them up and this is what I have had to deal with. image.jpg It's got grim and dirt build up all over the carbs. So time to clean and clean and clean. I will do one carb at a time as to not get off track and loose pieces.

image.jpg This is what I found when took one of the bowls off. A nice build up of grime and dirt. So I'm wondering what was in the tank.

image.jpg This is how dirty the intake seals are ATM as well.

The things I plan to do is.
: polish the frame and swing arm
    :new or rebuild engine.
    :new green paint job.
    : paint subframe.
    :new exhaust.
    :new nuts and bolts.
:either USD forks from a ZXR or CBR RR front wheel and forks.
:CBR RR speedo cable and sprocket cover mount.

worst still is trying to source a new engine.. wreckers want min $770 and max $1100 for one.. and the bike shop will only rebuild it if i have the after market parts to give them and they said its not their fault if something goes boom cause i won the parts.. that was $750...

I wished I had of seen Kiffsta baby blade for sale before he tracked it... because I would have no problems spending that much on a RR because I know once its rebuild it will be worth it... I'm just having a hard time justifying spend that much coin on a R..

Yep, I agree wih Tyson, find a parts bike and take the engine out and sell the rest off, MC19 wheels fetch good money and people use them on Motards :thumb_ups:

Cheers lads... Thinking it may need to sit for a while then until I find one.. It seems people want big money for half built bikes these days for some reason...

Negotiation is the key... also stuff on ebay will sell much higher than something on Gumtree, just keep an eye on what comes up.

That's how I found you kiffsta. The engine you had on gumtree. That's why I was so keen on it. Every where else I looked was ridiculous.

I'm still going to tear the bike down. And if worst cones to worst I will part it out.

    Hey Tim,
Think that is a wise move, when Chris and I removed it from the frame last week end, looked pretty good to me.
Hopefully an easy rebuild and soon to be back on the highway where it belongs. Good luck with it mate.:thumb_ups:
