Does anyone know what year the Japanese 250 c c bikes were restricted to 40hp? It seems to be common across CBR's, ZXR's, etc, and I was wondering what year it started. Or, specifically, which model fzr's had 45hp, and which had 40hp. I read that page on the FZR models, and it seemed to get slightly confused. At one point it indicates the change occurred between the 2kr and the 3ln. At another point it indicates the 3ln-1 had 45, where as the 3ln-3 has 40?
Mmm, and the table of stats indicates the same. But if you read the section on the 3ln3/3ln5 you'll find the following: By the way, when it improves from 91 year model, does not designate this time, drops to 40 horsepower with with good relationship also each manufacturer to become only colouring change, it was the time when replica sales becomes decisively reduced The english isn't particularly good though, and the confusion in the table and the later paragraph makes me wonder about it.
The Honda CBR250 series of bikes were produced between 1986 and 1996. They were a lightweight 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 6-gear sportbike capable of revving up to 18,500 rpm. The earlier models (1986-1993) produced 45 ps (34 kW), from then on, the power output was reduced to 40 ps (30 kW) in 1994 when Japanese law dictated it. It's the same with the FZR-250 I believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CBR250
hmm. damn. so my bike sits right on the border line and I won't really know which it is - 45 horses, or 40.
I don't know how much trust I put into that info. The last line it quotes ~50km / L for each model - that is over 500 km per tank! However, that is what I have read elsewhere and was told that it relates to testing on a dyno at the 'optimum speed:fuel use' ratio without any acceleration / deceleration.
Okay.....But looking at the web site all I see are pictures of the bike models with two (2) headlamps. Now the bike I bought has only one (1) so what on earth have I got? Its a 250R with Exhup and too all intents and purposes appears to be a 3LN; but with only one headlight. The guy I bought it off recons it was a 1987...but then again from what I can read its a very gray area. Anyway...did they make a model with only one headlight? Cheers
modell regarding modells mine stamped is 3ln 230096 but it is supposed to be a 91 mod by com plte imported in 94 does this make sense to any one thanks guy 4 your help,
Re: modell I'm putting my money on it's a 3LN-3. My old FZR250 was also a '91 build date and it was a 3LN-3. If it's got single headlight, deltabox frame, EXUP, and a redline that sounds like a banshee then you've got yourself a 3LN-3. Actually... that banshee thing applies to all FZR250's.
My bet is that is one of the codes engraved on the compliance plate. When the bike was imported from Japan it was inspected and given a compliance plate stating all the necessary info for Australian registration. The frame number is a bit more hidden. It is on the same side as the compliance plate but located further forward on the head stem. It’s a bit hard to explain without a picture but if you are looking for it you will find it. It helps to turn the handle bars to the left. Mine has had a line engraved through the numbers as the Australian VIN number makes it redundant, except for the purposes of model identification.
vin number same on frame as com plate no lines threw it but on left hand side of bike it has a plate in jap writing all i can make out is 3ln
