    Hey TBone,

I just 'adjusted' my chain and checked the sprockets on the weekend and found that they are 'almost' pointed teeth with about 1.5mm of flat left on the end. I havnt really ever thought too much about it, but is this still within safe tolerances, and if NOT, how much to post one of those chains up for a 2KR to Brissy?

    Cheers
    Nate

can you post a pic of where the axle and the chain ajust marks are??

I'm having a wee bit of difficultes picturing 1.5mm left of ajustment... (basicaly I cant belive it)

Best way to check if your chain is gone is to try and pull it off the rear sprocket... as in the pic below... it it comes off it's a goner...

I think GSS means that the ends of the sprockets teeth (looking from behind the bike) there is about 1.5mm of flat 'head' on each tooth.
I'll throw in my $0.02 and say that that won't be very indicative of the condition of the chain and sprockets. Far better to check it properly; firstly for any dead links, secondly for any tight spots, a thirdly (although most importantly) to see how much slack around the sprocket the chain has (as pictured in TBone's post).

I saw the bike in the picture (and adjusted the chain) and I still can't belive how knackered that chain was! Thankfully he decided to pay for a new chain & sprockets instead of the ambulance bills when it failed!
