Hi guys thought I would post a bit of a write up of my megelli . I bought it back in April as a home runner but was assured by the seller it was only a flat battery . Turned out it was a mix of stale fuel, buggered spark plug and stuffed battery. Replaced it all plus some general maintenance and tidy up. While trying to get some seat time to go for lams my starter motor decided to pack it in after four short rides and may have stuffed my new battery to . So where I am now is waiting for my new starter ( 6 weeks and counting) then license time. Pics from when i bought it and repairs
starter or IDLER WHEEL IN CLUTCH CASE THAT HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM HOUSING. common problem and if so need a new rhs crank case.
Starter motor burnt out cooked the windings inside it, never started well when I got it but think I finished it off
Went to check the idler then realised when looking that I am not sure wich one it is, I thought it might be the one on the left of the hole but not sure. Tried google but couldn't find anything, if someone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
need to take the side cover off which means liftingthe motor up off the frame and will take half a day.take off tank, upper engine mounts and battery box, front half of exhaust, front engine cradle, side cover so need to drain oil.idler wheel is to front of clutch and you cannot see till cover is off. has one bolt through centre and is a poor design. it can break the thread out and crack the case. new engine crankcase half is only solution.
Well motors out, covers off at first I thought I was lucky as everything turns normal and didn't apear to be cracked. Then I saw it through one of the holes in the cog, cracked case. So I guess the pull down continues
in the one i had it had openned up a countersunk locating hole so under warranty i got a new motor.there was a revised crank case with extra stiffenning. design fault.
Murdo , after looking and alot of thinking I feel that if I get it welded it would only be a BandAid fix as risky sed it is just a bad design. I will go and see my crossfire dealer tomorrow and talk to them about options. Better pic of cracking
Replacement crank case half arrived today, now I just need to start pulling the motor down. Thanks to risky for putting me onto this
thought I would just show where I am with this. I pulled the motor down to just a bottom end and took it to a shop to replace the crank case half wich should be done soon. As far as the new starter motor, I went to chase it up and all I got was blah blah not here yet blah blah don't no when it will be. I have had many moods with this bike from push it off a cliff, to sell it when it's fixed and now, fix it get my license and see how things go.
This starter is coming from crossfire and apparently the factory is not currently making them and no one have any in stock. The part that really annoys me is that the Australian distributor in nsw told me if I wanted to garentee one in the 3weeks they original told me was to pay for it in full.
ok, never take a sales pitch as true. contact the ebay sellers and see if in stock or message the pommyland people on ebay about the 125 megelli starter which is the same as the 250.
