On my 87 CBX, the left hand controls (NOT the clutch lever) are loose and spin around the handlebar freely. I suspect the bike has been dropped in the past and this is one of the few signs of evidence. I tried to tighten the screws that I assume hold it on but to no avail.

    Ideas?

Take it off completely ...... cut a piece of something like masking tape and wrap it around the bar where the switch goes ..... just 1 layer to start with...the tape will give the switch something to bite into and increase the amount of tightening gap.

If the screws are not tightening and are just spinning then thats another story.
