I have managed to melt a hole in mine and had to ride it a little home before I could let it die.

I think the best bet will be a replacement engine instead of a rebuild.

Does anyone have a spare they want to sell?
Ideally somewhere in Tasmania but I'm happy to get it shipped and have family in QLD if there are any up there.

Hey Dan, what's actually wrong with your engine and what part of Tassie are you in?

I haven't been game enough to open it up, but I was riding between Devonport and Launie and it lost a cylinder.
Now it sounds like it only has 3 when I crank it, it has some bad oil burning coming out of the exhaust when I turned it off.
I put it down to being tuned for QLD and me riding it hard in the night with thick tassie air and it went lean, but that's a guess at best.
I had to ride it another 20 minutes before I could stop, so I can only assume I've made a bad thing much worse.

I haven't worked on bike engines before but I'm no stranger to cars, I don't mind traveling anywhere in the state if you were willing to give me a hand getting it sorted out again.

    Hi Dan

I'm near Beaconsfield, but I was actually asking more along the lines of helping you swap out the bad engine for a good one and taking the bad engine away for me to play with as I am keen to pull one down to understand them better. I work on ZXR250 engines, but I'm of the opinion that the CBR250R engines are a better unit (gear driven cams Vs chain driven) and I should perhaps look at getting one at some stage. I guess as part of pulling yours down I'd probably find what has gone wrong with it.

I'm not a mechanic, but oil smoke can't be good. You might have damaged a ring. If that was happening on a ZXR250 engine I'd be starting the engine and checking how much smoke is coming out of the crankcase vent (blow-by).

Let me know if you find a replacement engine and you want a hand swapping them.

    Cheers Frank

I think ill have to open it up and find out how bad it is and if its salvageable.
It definitely does not have compression on one cylinder so ill pull it down and have a good look.
I can only hope the head and bores are in good condition but I doubt it.

Appreciate the replies, ill keep you posted
