    Hey Guys,

Got home from work on tuesday about 9pm, hanging for a ride, got my gear on, off I went.

Going down the highway I see 2 ambo's blocking the whole Hwy lights flashing... So I crept up the inside lane (just cause I could) to see what was happening, only to see what used to be an L plate CBR mangled in the middle of the road.

Thats the first time I have seen a fellow biker down since I got my license, and it really freaked me out and made me angry cause I could see the car that had hit him/her.

My first reaction was to pull over and make sure he/she was ok, but was quickly told to piss off, quess they don't understand the bond...

I used to be a lifeguard and one of the first thing that needs to be done in a situation (next to treating the victim) is to control the environment. And that essentially means getting rid of anyone who is not of any use. Quite often in the situation I used to deal with this meant getting rid of family / friends as they can only get in the way (not get rid of, but put in a separate room or something). This way all attention can be put to helping the person, and not crowd control. I assume that this is what the ambos were doing - they may understand the bond but they don't need the interference.

    On a similar note:
About 1 month ago I saw a cyclist clipped (on dandenong road, right by monash uni Caulfied - if you know the area). This was right next to a cricket pitch with a game going on, and lots of the cricketers started to run to help. Not a single car stopped (some even 'tooted' their horn in disgust at people standing in the road). I was going the opposite direction, but found the first place to do a u-turn and came back. There was little I could do - the cyclist was just scratched up, bruised and a little shocked, and the cricket team just happened to have people much more medically inclined than I (3 nurses, 1 physiotherapist). I still stuck around just in case though for about 10 minutes.

I really think that riders are much more conscious of road users and their strife and much more willing to help anyone (car or rider or other). There was a post on another forum talking about a car driver who ran off the road (no injuries etc, but needed assistance), and the only person to stop (5 minutes later) was a rider. No cars bothered to stop to help. Perhaps because riders are more vulnerable on the road we feel we should help those in strife, and when we do see an accident we think 'what if I had been in that' and try to see what else we can do...

Sad to hear that, i get angry myself when i hear of other riders down, espically if the car is at fault..
at least u ll be more aware of ur surroundings not wanting same **** to happen.. but it does happen and some times we cannot avoid it.
yeh its understandable ambos would tell u 2 move on.. as alot of focus must be kept for the victim .. and u dont want no bystander sayin.. oh **** he aint goin make it.. it will just deter the victim .. always have to be postive with those situations from wat i read..
