..but times are tough so i was wondering if anyone knew what jets
i need 2 use to compensate for the extra sky its gonna be sucking in..

(4x cone filterz + 4x correct jets = no more dam fines! 'caus 2FAST; 2 FIFTY!!!)

I don't want to spoil your party, but the odds are you will never get it to run properly.

These vacuum operated, constant velocity carbs were fitted with matching needles and jets to suit the standard air box by many white coated engineers with sharp pencils, protractors and slide rules in their top pockets.

Once the air box goes, the you're in no man's land.

Just for anyone elses info I had the individual pods on the 3ln motor and she ran fine

I went for a no name brand, as K&n were too exy- $200 for the set of 4. Bought from MTM Brisbane Northside (Virginia?)

Peek-a-boo

heya againa..

The actual K&N's are freakishly exprensive but the cool
thing bout them is that u can wash them with a special K&N cleaner..so no need 2 replacem 'em..no name el-cheapo's cant realy b washed..

but if ur bike has'nt been adapted for the filters (rejeted) u run the risk of having a bit of weight-reduction done 2 ur pistons (mixture ratio can burn holes thru the piston crown) another sad thing bout K&N's is that caus a 250 (4stroke)'s discharge jets (orifise-donno how 2 spell that) r so tiny, they r sencitive 2 the dust that slips thru K&N's so they get block easy..
anyway, jus my 2 cents worth.. jeerz

actually the cheap ones I had were washable. I originally asked for K&N. They had them there but said they dont sell them cause of the cost, and all of the bikes they do run the other filters. Same set up with cotton between gauze

I've actually wondered about fitting pod filters inside the airbox to solve the tuning issue (although granted brad didn't experience that problem).

May need to increase the size of the airbox snorkel to fit, but otherwise it should still decrease resistance while not affecting turbulence through the carbs.

I'vr been humming and hawwing about pods on my 250 for a little while now cos my air box is a real nuisance to get back on...
the thread bout pods in the air intake sounded really cool.

Has anyone tried this??

My thinking is you wouldn't have to rejet your carby's then cos your not really forcing more are in, just lettin the carbies breathe easier..

Can anyone suggest an easy way to remount the box onto the carby as I have tried just about everything (includin soaking them in water & oiling them up....) and have pretty much given up..

I might go wit the pods... let us know when and post some feedback

Go with pod filters and you are going to have to rejet. No way around it. Sorry, but your thinking is incorrect.

doh! thanx for confirming my fears...
Can anyone shed some light on what rejetting costs in AUS?

I know this is a bit off topic, but can someone tell me how much work is involved in fitting an exup?

when you tried soaking it in water, was the water boiling hot?

Makes a big difference - even just using a hiar dryer to heat them up and soften them will help.

Whenever i take off the air box i make sure I leave the rubber boots attached to the carbs (not to the airbox). That way they can't contract, making them much easier to fit afterwards.

Fitting the camshafts, wiring loom, EXUP servo, EXUP headers and ignition module from a 2KR EXUP model, that should just about do it.

Good luck

I shoot a little WD40 under the rubber boot on my RZ to get it off, then I wipe it clean after. It takes less time to wipe the boot after then it does to go get the hair dryer plug it in and heat the rubber. Just shoot a small squirt at the top just under the boot lip and give it a wiggle to get the fluid all the way around the boot.
