Well here's the irony; all this time i've been putting up with apalling fuel economy whilst i knew the bike was running rich. Just spent the day with an awesome backyard mechanic by the name of Pete (LordTB on Netrider) tuning her up. All i can say now is wow! The thing runs like a dream!

    Tasks done by me:-
    - Carbs pulled down & minor clean (i'd already cleaned them a fortnight before and he said they were as clean as they'd ever been/ will be).
    - Float bowels drained (again, done by me 2 weeks ago... nothing nasty came out)

    Tasks done by Pete:-
    - Pilot jets adjusted... (they were at 3.5 turns out... now at 3; tried 2.75 but it was a little too lean with the straight through exhaust i've got).
    - Carby's balanced (this one took a little while but they are absolutely SPOT on now... from idle to redline they are equal (well within 2-3mm atleast!))

Interestingly enough... the bike now pulls ALOT smoother from stationary, with significant gains up to 9k rpm (can now launch off the lights happily at 4k rpm!!! Previously impossible, would've bogged down immediately). The power kick has moved up the rev range a bit, now comes on at about 12k rpm instead of 10.5k rpm previously. I can honestly say, it feels like a new bike... pulls cleanly from idle to redline.

Also, whilst pulling it all apart i got a lesson on how to do it all (well, actually i helped him do it). So i now am endowed with +5 to carby tuning ability. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> For anyone who may be putting off getting their bike tuned up properly cos they think they can spend the money on better things; GO BOOK IT IN NOW! The grin i got after riding my bike for the first time (that really big dopey one) came back exactly like it did on day 1.
