Hi all, just wondering if anyone out there knows where to find parts for this model?
I cant seem to find an airfilter anywhere, whenever i search for xs250 parts the only bike the internet knows of is the model before mine (1979-82 i think, mine is 82 to 83 or 85?) mine is the square headlight model.

    Also chasing a petcock.

Long story short, does anyone know of any parts sites that stock maintenance items for this model?
Im in australia but dont mind paying to have stuff posted if needed.

    Cheers!

awesome thanks for the info, ill see what i can do with it.

on another note, im struggling to get my clutch to work, the clutch cable works, albeit worn, but it still pushes the rod in and out (a little, unsure how much its supposed to move) ive adjusted it both ways to see if it will change anything but still no good. ive had a quick search on the net and some say the plates could be stuck together? any other ideas?

Also i just looked up that code site, mines a 19Y, which says its an 83, but on my neck it says 82, i dont suppose that means anything?

    cheers!

Hold the clutch in and put into second gear and rock the bike backwards and forwards until you feel it release and the bike rolls freely.

the last owner had changed the oil, it was clean when i drained it. he said it was moving when he turned it on six months ago.

Ill try janking it back and forth and see if i can free them up, if that doesnt work, ill pull off that side panel and inspect.

I cant remember what my XS 400 air filter looked like , it's been simply to long ago , been sniffing to much 98 octane fuel since then :headbang:.
Another way to try to release stuck clutch plates is to ride the bike , if your not a ''experienced rider'' DON'T try this and definitely not on a public road. This worked for me on a Honda CB 125 long time back , keep using the clutch though when changing gear's as per normal , mine just suddenly started to work on one of my gear shift's.
As other's have commented , a oil change would be a good idea no matter how clean the oil was that came out of the bike. What was used in the bike is un-known.

Found these two air filter filter's , pictures are so much easier.

been chasing parts for xs250 79-80 found yambits in the uk fairly good but exi post , also cruzimage in japan , with the pet cock do you need another one or rebuild the one you have , yambits have a kit , also you sure its a xs250r. 1980 on were xs250se and xs250c ... looking at yambits site the 79-80 and the xs250c air filters seem to be the same but the xs250se is different , best to have a look and compare to their web page

yr models can change depending on location and where their market region is suppose to be ie europe/ usa or australia, australia is in the asia pacific region with some releases being a yr later than others and some models released in one area but not another eg the xs650 447 motors / pistons was released world wide while the ones with the 556 motors were europe only .... confusing isnt... it with the change over period you can often just go with experience , eg .. my demax car is a early 2012 just before the mid yr model change over... by experience iv learnt to order 2011 parts as most list parts for 2012 dont fit .. also with the clutch do as 2 valve suggested but also if sitting for a while while your getting it ready for the rd cable tie your clutch lever in , the constant pressure on the plates may get them to release

I ended up finding one from the states, luckily i had the old one still to compare, its just a basic cube looking thing.
I ended up just ordering a generic one, as i think mine is a generic one also as there is only one fuel line coming off it, from factory i think they are vacuum fed ones? can anyone explain this? i have the 2 thin hoses blocked off in the intake manifolds.

None of these are mine haha, this is the one i bought

are you sure you have a 250 and not a 400 , because its very important . have a look at your engine nums and not your vin num as may have had a engine swap / upgrade , also the petcock is a vacuum one and the kit to rebuild is at yambits , the hoses on your inlet manifold are for syning your carbs

It has matching numbers and is a XS250RK to my understand here in australia its basically a sleeved down 400 for our learner market. and because of this ive been comparing the 400 and a lot of the parts seem the same.

the petcock looks fairly basic and the same as ive seen on any other bike, its a single fuel line which runs to the top of the fuel bowl on one carb.

in that case your on your own unless someone else here can shed some knowledge on the subject im at my limit of my knowlege , good luck and have fun with it .... opps just googled up your model and yes suppose to be a down sleeved 400 designed with the jap 250cc market for legal reasons ,so looks like your right about the 400 parts , bad reviews about the speed and handling ie stated as one of the slowest jap bikes invented as you most probably read , might be worth turning it back into a 400 as might just need to be resleeved and 400 pistons ,, presume should be same crank and cam as the 400 and carbs should only need rejeting , just a idle thought ... ps .. what part of australia are you in

im honestly not phased about the speed, it has a 6 speed and as long as it can sit at 100kmph without revving its tits off im happy. ive heard others say all the power is high in the rpm, it revs out to 10k according to the tacho... wow. this is going to be a mix of retro originality and just to get around on, was looking at postie bikes lol.

im restoring an 81 IT465 at the moment so not much more questions, just wanted to order some bits and work on the other bike while waiting for them to arive sort of thing.

    im in south east melbourne!
