    Hey it's been a while I hadn't touched the bike in a few months because it was frustrating me I can't get the air box back on. And it wouldn't start even after I took the carbs off and cleaned them, I thought it had something to do with the air to fuel ratio being out because the air box wouldn't go on buy realized that's a bit rediculous and today decided to drown the carbs with carb cleaner, I did that and had it running while I was spraying but would die when I stopped, no fuel was getting to any of the carbs and so I took the outlet hose from the pump off and turned it on so it would pump, and nothing came out.

    That's when I realized I had the "tap" turned off.... *face palm*

    So now it starts and runs smoothly and now I have the motivation to get it on the road again, I'd say its pretty far from road worthy still.
    I want your guys opinion on something, the frame of the bike has a bit of surface rust on it so I'm going to sand it all down and re paint it, as you know it's a yellow bike, what colour should I go with?
    Black, gunmetal gray, silver, something else?
    Same goes for the wheels, their gold but are in prett bad shape too so I want to re paint them too.

    Thanks guys

    Howdy all,

    Im hoping someone can help me oput on this one....
    Im a really really confused noob.

    I just recently bought my first bike. Its an FZR 250 (this much i do know), it was complianced on 04/96 but is apparenly a 1988 FZR 2KR.
    My serial numer on the neck of the frame says its a 2KR-115016 but i have the 1988 engine I think.
    Not sure if i have EXUP but i think i do, coz i remember seeing that pully thing when i flushed my radiator.

    I can't find this serial number anywhere...Anyone that can shed some light on this would be greeeat.
    My theory is that i have an 86 or 87 frame, with an 88 engine.

    Cheers, Kris <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    yeah I was looking at that.
    im gonna try and dig up to find the origin of this bike, im assuming it was built using an 86 frame going by serial numbers, but it also has 3HX1 on the compliance plate which pops up as an 1988 model but was complied and registered as a 1996 model.

    This is why im really confused on what exctly this is.

    These bikes are grey imports ...meaning they were imported "privately" and not officially by Yamaha.....so the date (1996) on the compliance plate only tells u when that happened in Australia.

    On the 3LN the engine number is stamped on the top rear of the motor and on mine it matches the frame number.

    Definitely 86 frame - the compliance plate only gives the date first registered in Aus. Someone may have rebuilt it resulting in a different engine being fitted.
    One of life's mysteries I'd say.

    On my 2KR the engine number is in exactly the same place, and also starts with 1HX. The build date for my bike is 1989, although compliance plate says 2001. Like the others have said - the compliance plate date does not mean that much in terms of the actual model.

    Hope this helps <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
