    I went on my first group bike ride last sunday

    and one of the people following behind me said they saw big flames coming out the exhaust when I was going down this one steep down hill twisty bit so I was not accelerating.

    Flow through and ignition of excess fuel is never a good thing... unless your going F&tF style and want to attract all the wrong attention. It could be damaging the valves if your clearances are not correct, or it could simply be gumphing up the exhaust a bit.
    If it was anything other than a quick little double flash of flame then i'd be looking seriously at the tuning. If it was just a quick little flash then it's probably time for a service, new airfilter (or a clean), and a carby balance.

    Don't ignore it and think it's cool... i mean a James Dean style flamethrower bike is cool, just not in a way that's gonna last a long time. <!-- s:cool: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt=":cool:" title="Cool" /><!-- s:cool: -->
